If you have Arian Foster

How soon in the draft would you grab Tate? Last year another owner grabbed him in the 8th round. It really pi$$ed me off, although it is just a game. He would not accept any reasonable trade I offered.I think he did it just to get to me. I was lucky last year but now I am wondering when I should go after this much needed handcuff. If Foster's touches are limited from 2012 then Tate could possibly be a viable flex.

This year, if I had Adrian I would probably handcuff him as soon as i drafted my starting roster.

Personally, I would have done the same thing you did, with a different reaction. I would've excused myself and went out and flattened his tires.

Then again, I also have a tendency to see if someone else isn't handcuffing their stud back, they assume no one else is going to touch him for a while...and then I draft him.

I have him #26 RB on my list if I have Foster and #31 without. The purpose of an RB3 to me is as insurance against a starter injury - so you have a 50/50 chance of plug-and-play, something people almost never get with their top 5 pick. Even if it's your other RB that he's insuring, he's not a horrible replacement. If I don't own Foster I knock him down a tad, he's still worth the late flier but you're better off taking a shot on one of the high-upside next-gen guys like Miller or Ivory and later maybe looking at your own handcuff .

Which was mostly my point. 3rd is too early for him, but he's my #23 RB currently, and if I don't have Foster I'd just as soon take an upside guy like him and circle back with a flier later. If Miller's getting that much love by the end of preseason then fine, nitpick and select a different name in the RB26 range if you must. Giovanni Bernard work for you?

Even with Foster healthy, Tate is worthy of a flex play in some (maybe most) leagues during bye weeks (or perhaps even normal weeks if the opponent is right).

And this is yet another reason I'm a little down on Foster this season. Selecting him absolutely requires you to burn a mid-round pick on Tate to take out insurance on your first pick. I'd rather grab another back and take someone else in the 7th/8th (or wherever).

+1. This is a one-for-two deal that sounds like the opposite of what you want to be doing. There should be very serviceable talent in rounds 7-9 although after that in a 15-round 12-team non-PPR the upside of Tate does increase. Guaranteed the Foster owner will be pulling the Tate trigger in Round 7 or 8 and wasting a pick. I'd do it if Foster fell but I'd hate myself for it.

Tate in the top 30-35 RBs doesn't sound too good to me. I'd rather spot-start Ingram  .

Tate is your 23rd RB ????????? That's insanity.........last year people way over drafted him totally blew a nice pick in the 7th and 8th rounds.

For now, before preseason, yes. It's highly likely to change, but until I see what happens, he's right there. He's got talent, they run a lot, and they have a great Oline. In 2011 he had over 900 yards rushing and averaged 5.4 YPC. They didn't overdraft him, he just got hurt like some guys do. He's also in a contact year, and Foster is coming off another season of monster usage, so Tate getting 250+ touches could happpen.

Yep. that team has a excellent running scheme and good run blocking so whoever is back there is a top 5 or more RB. getting a guy in the 8th round that could possibly effect a fantasy team like Tate would if Foster goes down I think warrants a 8th round pick, maybe even 7th if RB's are going quicker than expected. if Foster went down for a extended time, there would be alot of Tate owners heading into the fantasy playoffs. it makes Tate intriguing.

Sorry, I confused myself. Tate isn't my #23, Miller is #23. So if we're talking about early RB3 and Miller is there, I'd take him over Tate. If I owned Foster though, I would have no problem taking Tate instead. And yes, it's possible Miller moves up, but until I see it in PS I am not personally ranking him higher. He has a goal-line threat in Thomas (and some might argue Thomas is better anyway - they did use a 2nd on him vs. a 4th on Miller) and we don't know if that offense is going to be any better or not. Many teams with young QB's stagnate once NFL teams get film on them. Miller is a nice upside guy, but if someone takes him in the 3rd I'm loving that because it pushes those middle guys I like that much closer to my 4/5th round picks.

Well while all you are taking Tate in the 7th and 8th round I will picking another starter. Good luck to you though!

I hear you Muto but if you go the best player route sometimes it leads you to taking WR's, QB's or certain TE's and you end up behind on the RB situation. in a 12 team league in round 7 and 8 your gonna get guys like Tate, Stewert , deangelo Williams, Bryce brown, fred Jackson and worse. so if you have Foster I myself am aiming for Tate in 7 or 8 just to make sure I wrap up that dominant fantasy situation. if I don't have Foster I would not touch him until 9 or 10 in which he will surely be gone anyways.

Edit : sorry for the double post not sure how that happens

I'm a Foster owner (along with D.Martin...just thought I'd throw that n there) and the guy who owns Tate wants 1st team trade bate. I told him to go chives himself. I won't overpay and I think Foster will play every week...just a gut feeling but he might be the steel of the 1st round

Taz,

How is Foster the steal of the first round, isn't he going in the first few picks of most drafts. Even if he ends up better than those taken ahead of him I don't see how that is a steal. Or did you really mean "steel of the draft" as in some sort of solid pick ;)

Taz is drunk again. Move along. Nothing to see here.

This reminds me of last year with AP. There was a legitimate reason for AP.One thing about Foster is that he seems to glide when he runs. I don't think he gets all that much wear and tear from hard hits.

Foster has been slipping in almost every real draft I have been in or seen. He should be going to 2, but have seen him fall to 8.

8??? That's crazy! I can see him falling, but all the way to 8 is nuts. Is this a first timer league?

Just looking at the Huddle Ladder drafts he was selected 4, 5, 7, 4, 6 in those 5 different drafts. I had a local where I got him a 8. 20th year of this league.
