golferdoc
I have been involved with a "keeper league" the last three years where you are allowed to keep three offensive players, one defense or kicker, and three individual defensive players. The problem is that there is no limit as to how long you can keep them. So come draft time, you never see AP, Brees, Rogers, CJ, Chi, SF, JJ Watt, P. Willis, etc... So it is more like a mini-dynasty league than a real keeper league. Is it reasonable to have the league take a vote to change it to something fair...like a two year keeper limit? Your suggestions and input are very much appreciated.
darin3
I think anything could be up for a vote.... and in this case it should certainly be up for a vote. I think 3 years max sounds like a pretty reasonable timeframe to keep everything fresh.
golferdoc
It would be nice to see all those great players back in the draft...at this point I would even like getting rid of the keepers for good. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the input! There should also be some kind of "penalty" or cost, too. Perhaps you hit the reset button and start fresh. Keepers would cost you the round you selected them in. That is, say you get Quinton Patton in the 13th round this season and he blows the eff up and you want to keep him next season. He would just cost you your 13th rounder next season. Big Country
As Darin says, there are a lot of ways to do this. But, first, there is nothing "unfair" about how your league is set up and having keepers be an unlimited time frame, assuming all teams are allowed to keep their players for an unlimited time frame. If all teams are playing under the same rule, it is perfectly fair. It is just a choice. As far as options to encourage recycling players into the draft more frequently, a couple of the more common ones are: Add a cost to keep players, ie round drafted, or, to further encourage players going back, round drafted +X (usually 1 or 2), thus it gets exponentially more expensive to keep a player, and then 1st (or 1st and 2nd) round players can't be kept. Have a limit on how many years a player can be kept. 3 is the most common I have seen
BA Baracus
I play in a league where you keep a player with the draft pick in the round ahead of where you drafted them last year. So, say you drafted Martin in the 4th last year, you can keep him in the 3rd this year, 2nd next year, and 1st the year after that. Once you keep a guy in the 1st round he automatically goes back in the pool.
