buddahj
I still have never had the #1 pick in a redraft. I've had #2 a few times, but for the most part I've always been near the end. This year I got 10/10 & 12/12 in both my locals. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather be near the back of a draft. It just seems strange that all the leagues I play in that I've never had #1. Anyone else as (un)lucky as me? Edited September 6, 2013 by buddahj
irish
That's crazy! I've had the pleasure of picking first on many occasions and it seems the folks in my one local constantly want me going #1. We do random card picking ace through 10 or queen (12) and I take the card left after everyones' picked and they've left me the ace 3 out of the last 4 years. darin3
I honestly can't remember a time where I've had 1.01 in a redraft (maybe a mock, but not in a league that matters). I talked about it with a co-worker today. In our "work league", the commish ended up with 1.01 and we all gave him crap about rigging the draft order (Yahoo did it randomly). We both agreed, though, that the 1.01 this year gets you AP... but most think that having a pick later in the round nets you a guy that could do just as good as AP, and obviously your 2nd pick is of better value. I agree 100% and when people complain that I have the #1, I just join them, knowing that I'd rather have the #4 or #5 and then an earlier 2nd rounder. Cowboyz1
Budda I felt your pain until THIS Year. In my BOTH league here with irish. I was sweating the die rolls each week. Thinking no way I get the 1st pick. someone is going to get me. Low and behold I get the 1 pick. Now I say to myself, hell, who the heck to I pick. The obvious pick is AP but I have been burned once before with Marshall Faulk. I finally got him and wammo. He stinks up the joint, his second to last year in the league the wheels come off. Having the #1 pick should be easy but instead of weighing players only you have to take another thing into account that you don't in any other pick. You have to consider what pick you can make and not look like a rookie or a dope. I mean AP is the no brainer but say I want someone else. What is the half-wit index on picking someone else. I went with AP but I considered, Charles, Foster and TR. Foster I don't trust. Charles could be gold but he's not AP. I figured if AP can heal from acl and go for 2k, I would be stupid not to think a year recovered he's not going to run even better. I have had every draft position multiple times but never 1. So I figure one of two things are gonna happen. 1 this is the year of the Cowboy. Or two, just a more creative way of kicking me in the nuts. ChampSampson
A guy in my league was complaining about getting the #6 pick three years in a row. (which is false) I told him it couldn't be considered "random" if 3-in-a-row is not within the possibility of even distribution, small sample size well within the standard deviation. The same truth could be made when you "never" get the 1st pick in 15 years. With that said, you run bad! Riffraff
Only once I've had the 1.01. Drafted a guy by the name of Emmitt Smith. He did pretty well.
HowboutthemCowboys
You didn't pick Adrian Peterson?!?!? didn't matter. it was my 1st year in a league that had stupid rules and I had some injuries and played the top scorer what seemed like every week..no flex, start 2 wrs and def pts were crazy high. we made some adjustments this yr edot: who was taking Peterson at 1.01 last august? jcolabove
11 years and counting for me! never had the 1 pick. although my friend had the 1 pick in 3 out of 4 leagues. he took martin first in them all
rattsass
I had a run about like that, but finally drew a #1 a few years ago. Then I drew a 3. This year I drew a 3 and a 5 - doubling my lifetime total of first half of the draft picks. And then Adrian Peterson fell to me at #3. My luck is changing. Sunday Couch Potatoe
I drafted 1 in 3 just this year and have had the old 1 hole on many occasions over the 20years of FF. This year I love my teams at the front of the draft 1-3 and not so much with the ones I picked 10-12. HowboutthemCowboys
I doubt I'll ever pick 1 again unless I finish last in Hannibals. Other 3 leagues you get to pick your draft spot..and I hate the 1 hole ..

Anyone else as (un)lucky as me? Yep, I'm with you. I'm going into year 12 myself, and in my two main locals, I (just like you) have NEVER had the #1 overall pick. I have had the #2 pick twice in one and once in the other. Again, just like you - I've had the 2nd back to back pick 4 times - 10/10 and 12/12 twice in each league. This year I had the #4 and #6 spots. Oddly enough, again just like you - it seems that in one league, the #1 pick has been rotating between 3 managers for the past 7 years. Skrappy1
Been playing fantasy football 18 years, and often in multiple leagues per year. In all that time, I think I pulled the #1 pick twice. Once about 5 or 6 years back in a BOTH league in which I took Ladanian Tomlinson and won the league. The other time was back in 1999 when Terrell Davis was the consensus #1 pick. I really didn't like the idea of not having a second pick until slot #24 that year, so I traded out of the #1 slot and to the back of the draft and it ended up being a lucky decision as Davis ended up blowing up his knee early in the season. I think I ended up finishing in second place that season. Like you, Buddha, for whatever reason I almost always end up drafting towards the tail end of the first round. Tripleshot
I got the top pick in my office money league this year and hated getting it. I picked AP just because you almost have to, but I am wary of the post 2k yard season dropoff. I considered asking if I could trade my draft position for someone else's but ultimately stayed where I was at. The reason is because I picked 8th, 9th and 11th in my other three 12 team leagues. And while this year I preferred to pick later, I already know what my team will look like picking there. So I stayed at number one so at least one team would look a little different from the others. I think Yahoo! gives the #1 to the Commish more often than not. I have been the Commish of my work league since its inception and for the last two years, I've gotten #1. In another this year, the Commish got #1, and now I'm reading yours...weird.

Finally convinced that league to switch to an auction format.
historymike
Absolutely, no one. This. Peterson was going second and third round in all of my leagues last year coming back after surgery, and Week One last year he was listed as questionable. faceplant
In roughly ten years of playing in several leagues I have been all over the draft board. I have no favorite spot other than it's nice to get the first pick and have the opportunity to be the first to pick someone dependable. I've won the whole thing a couple of times and I always feel that my mid round picks are what gets me there. Either players falling to me or picking breakout players by some combination of luck/chance/research.
