Amendola out

Thompkins and Edelman are the only real receiving threats now, no?

Maybe Dobson plays this week - and Boyce was on the field last week - but I think Thompkins and Edelman are the guys that Brady will lean on.

Does anyone know which WR the Jets will put Cromartie on?

I'm interested to see if Thompkins can bounce back this week. I know he's still a rookie, not looking for a superstar performance, but I want to see if he can look more like the player he was in the preseason. Not sure if Sunday's nerves were all related to nerves/jitters or something else.

I'm also curious to see if Leon Washington gets work as their up-tempo back - or if they're just going to run less up-tempo. Blount and Ridley don't seem like good matches for that role. I've read in some spots that Bolden has decent hands - but the Pats didn't really have him catch at all last year (2 catches in 10 games).

Probably a long shot - but Washington might be a lottery ticket type add to see if he can eventually put up flex or bye week numbers. Probably just the wishful thinking of someone who lost Vereen dropped Edelman for Thompkins before week 1.

Amendola could have 120 catches with the Patriots, but will probably end up with 70-80, while playing 9 or 10 games. Lovely...but anyone surprised has been asleep.

Giving him 9 or 10 games is generous. This guy is brittle as a rotten stick. Too bad because he is fairly talented.

There are only two approaches here: Start Thompkins (and, of course, Edelman) and don't think twice;

Or... bench all Patriots, including Brady.

Most "experts" have Brady as a solid QB1 this week, yet have Edelman as a borderline WR2/3 and Thompkins ranked in the 40s. You can't have it both ways....

Logical fallacy. Of course you can have it both ways. Brady can throw to Ridley, Washington, Blount, Dobson, my mother, or a dozen other options and still be a fantasy stud. Brady makes the receivers, not the other way around. This has been happening since the dawn of time AT (anno tomini). This might be the silliest thing I read all day.

I read that as faith that Brady will find someone to throw to and end up with usable fantasy numbers. Who that/those someone(s) is/are is tougher to call. Pats have shown over the years they will spread it around and use a variety of tactics. They had GL plays for Vrabel at one time. Point being that team seems to find a way to score points even if its through obscure players/plays. I think that is why you will still see Brady ranked high but less confidence in which of his targets will produce well enough to be ranked high. Edited by Delicious_bass

You guys both make good points, and I agree to an extent. But if Edelman scores twice last week (and nearly had a 3rd TD that he didn't catch in EZ) and now Amendola is out (Vereen too) how is Edelman a borderline WR2/3, should be solid WR2 I'd think.

I got him off waivers and he'd be in my lineup but I already have Calvin, Fitz and Dem Thomas in my line-up.

No doubt the Pats score somehow and Brady will get his. So if Edelman and Thompkins are risky, who is going to get the points? There are not many more options left on the team.

Ridley - 9 career catches, 0 TD receptions last year

Washington - Hasn't had more than 15 catches in a season -- or a single TD reception -- since 2008

Dobson - A rookie who had trouble learning the offense in the offseason; an afterthought

Blount - You've got to be kidding me

Your mother - If your mother were playing, I might give my original comment a second thought

Talk about silly comments. The fallacy is believing that Ridley or any of these clowns above (aside from your mother) can have any sort of positive impact on the NE passing game. In the past, Brady had the likes of Kevin Faulk and Ben Watson as safety blankets when injury struck. Now, he has Edelman, Thompkins, maybe Boyce, and that's it.

Aside from perhaps a fluke TD to a Mike Vrabel-type (and one TD does not a fantasy line make), Brady is going to need Edelman and Thompkins to step up big-time with Amendola, Vereen, and Gronk out. If they don't, then as sure as I'm sitting here he will have a disappointing fantasy line against an underrated Jets D come Thursday.

Now that wasn't so difficult, was it?
