Jamal Charles' Handcuff

I know Knile Davis is listed on depth charts as the #2 RB, but I also noticed that Cyrus Gray got some carries on Sun. and also had a pretty solid preseason. Are there any Chiefs insiders who have a take on Davis vs. Gray? I know Davis was a high draft choice this year and has game-breaker speed, but I also read somewhere his ball security skills in college were not the best. We all know from David Wilson, and any other RB with ball security issues, that losing the ball is the quickest way to find yourself on the bench.

Thanks, Chief Dick. I fell into a trap last year with other McGahee owners of swooping in on Ronnie Hillman when McGahee went down, only to see Knowshon Moreno take over the lead role. As a Charles owner this year, and his tendency to get nicked up, it would seem reasonable to try to claim his backup if such a clear cut backup existed. However, I'm not convinced there is based on the split in carries between Davis and Gray last weekend. It's kind of like when they say if you have 2 starting QBs on the same team, you really have none since neither asserted himself as being that much better.

I think the question is, "If Charles is hurt, do the backups split carries while he's out or is one elevated to the primary position?"

I think the answer to that question is (at a minimum), "Knile Davis gets the first chance to be a primary ball carrier, and if he doesn't do a good job, then Gray will get his shot to be a primary ball carrier."

While I may be wrong, and some Philly fan would most assuredly know, Reid doesn't strike me as the sort of guy who'd really prefer to give two guys equal amounts of touches ... he'd rather elevate a guy to being the primary carrier than tag-team.
