Do contract years and revenge really make a difference?

So we have SJax going up against the Rams this weekend and many are expecting him to blow up out of some sort of revenge rage. The same with Welker going up against Coach Billy B later in the year. Also, Finley is in his contract year and the same pundits have him turning it around, stop dropping balls and stay healthy for 16 games.

 

Do you actually think these guys can crank it up the dial on demand?

 

IMO, the NFL is an incredible grind and changing speeds appears to be really really hard. I don't think these conditions make a consistent difference in FF.

Sjax has already said he doesn't view this week's game as anything more than normal. Remember, the Rams let him out of his contract a year early.

 

You bet your arse revenge matters to Welker. The Pats dissed him and he's likely to want to prove they messed up.

 

Finley... Contract year or no, he will continue to not play up to expectations. I think the Pack tries to bring him back at a reasonable amount, but some other team will overpay.

It's tough to say if contract years and revenge make a difference in fantasy football. I'm leaning mostly towards no. Perhaps getting a bigger contract leads to less motivation after the fact, though. We've seen certain players get loads of money (*ahem, Albert Haynesworth) and just cash it in and coast for the rest of their careers.

I think contract years matter the most to running backs in terms of FF purposes.

 

I believe almost all running backs give 100% on the field (game day); however, off the field is a different story.

 

During contract years I think they are more likely to put in more work off the field when they need to cash in.
