Cards not dead just yet

After a 3-1 preseason, I was about to pull the trigger on some Cardinal Superbowl smack, but after a game 1 loss to the Rams I am glad I pulled back. Now we are in “do or die” mode already, and it is only week 2! Some interesting stats I came across last night:

  • The Cardinals chances of winning after a loss, are no better than after 4 straight wins.
  • When losing to the Rams and Lions in back to back weeks, the Cardinals have never won the Superbowl.
  • And finally, the Cardinals have never won the Superbowl after a 0-2 start.

That’s right……. it is go-time boys!

The ARZ defense looks reasonably solid this year & the offense appears to be semi-productive as well ... but the Cardinals have also never won the Superbowl in a year where the Italian Lira was valued at less than the US Dollar, in a year when pro football players wore face masks, in a year when the Cardinals started the season 1-0 or in a year when water was deemed to be wet. The team certainly seems improved over last year's version, but I'm not really sure where these "stats" (such as not having 'won the Superbowl after an 0-2 start') are going. Nonetheless, good luck this year, the ARZ passing game should at least be entertaining enough to watch, especially after the debacle that was the post-Warner/pre-Palmer era.

The defense seemed beatable, although their goal-line stand last week against the Rams was impressive. They have a few playmakers and will generate some turnovers. However, they are getting killed at the seams and are having trouble wrapping up ball-carriers. It seemed like half of the yards they let up on passing plays last week were after the catch.

The lira is no longer used as Italy now uses the Euro.

Let's hope that Palmer is the second coming of Warner.....

It's refreshing to see the Cardinals with an upright a real qb again. Also nice to see a semblance of a running game. The defense has always been decent, but now there's hope on both sides of the ball. A pity they play in the division they do.

Ideally, for this to more closely mirror the weekly Cowboys thread, you need to be more optimistic - a LOT more - think world's biggest Cardinal homer optimistic, though the interesting facts is a nice twist.

You're right Tripleshot, I am going to keep this post going until we hoist the cup....er, win the Bowl!! Was not long ago the NFC West was at the bottom..next week will be a test going into New Orleans, tough place to play, but they have not looked too good so far. If we can move the ball on the ground, which I think can happen, we will have a shot to win late.
