MJD Ankle

Rotoworld)Jaguars coach Gus Bradley revealed Maurice Jones-Drew is experiencing "looseness" in his injured left ankle.

Analysis: Although the injuries aren't believed to be related, it's certainly worth noting Jones-Drew's ankle injury is to the same foot he had surgically repaired last year. Jones-Drew is scheduled for a Monday MRI, which will reveal the exact extent of the injury. "It's a little loose in there from the sprain," said Bradley. "They'll re-evaluate him tonight and tomorrow." The Jaguars face Bradley's old team, the Seahawks, in Week 3. MJD seems unlikely to play.

as I've said a few times, mjd's reward for a good season is the franchise tag. the first injury he has will put him as doubtful for the reason of the season. he'll negotiate an incentive contract with a new team next season. sometimes the tag option backfires on a team.

+1, and well stated.

How does it backfire? If they want to keep him, they can use it. If they don't, they aren't forced to. Not sure how it's backfiring when they haven't even used it yet.

I'm implying that MJD might "tank" the season while "pretending" his injury is worse than it is. If there was no tag option, I think guys like MJD would play through injury and put 100% effort. Now, the most interesting player on JAC might sit out the season. So that's how I think it backfires.

I agree with you on this. Because of the tag, it is actually in MJD's best interest to sandbag the rest of the way rather than risk a more serious injury.

Who the hell would sign this guy if he tanks the season?

1) Teams would be dumb to sign a guy that isn't playing for his team.

2) His stats this year would look like garbage and that won't net him anything more than a cheap 1 yr deal.

Doesn't make sense for him what-so-ever.

He signs a one year deal with incentives. Then he plays his ass off. His next contract is the big fat one.

I want to get this right. MJD ought to tank this year so he doesn't get FTed - which would pay him one year at the average of the top 5 salaries at his position - in order to sign with another club at a bargain basement price laden with incentives - because his previous year's performance was intentionally so bad - knowing full well that he may not collect a cent of it if he were to get injured early on in the year, or he just didn't have the gas in the tank any more. And that's so he could take another year off his shelf life as a RB and then sign a supposedly hugh contract in what would be his 10th year in the league and at an age of 30?

Yeah, that's just genius there.

Then we're left with him just having nothing left in the tank and/or being too old and injury prone. Also, the possibility exists that he's still more than capable on a decent team, but he's on the Jags, so we may need to lower expectations for the rest of the year regardless.

Thanks BB for saving me the time of writing this up. Well stated. :pokey:

Yeah, exactly. Tank a $9 million FT to sign for $1.1 like Ahmad Bradshaw did. Maybe if he's super lucky the new team will trade for Doug Martin.
