Espn projections can be so dramatic!

Yes I'm a Giants Homer. Yes I drafted Hakeem Nicks in a bunch of leagues, but that's besides the point. Espn is often very wacky with the way they project stats. Yeah there's a chance Nicks only ends up with 4 points, but describing has a "low-end flex play at best"? Seems a little ridiculous to me. What do you guys think? The same goes for Eli. Yes he looked terrible, but 9 points this week? Please.

Yes, projections can be over-reactionary (and most fantasy providers rankings tend to be crap anyway), but at a certain point you have to downgrade players until they show otherwise, or else you're going to have people pissed off that you predicted them so highly without good evidence to support it.

I don't think the Giants are going to be this bad all year from a fantasy standpoint (even in that awful first game against the Cowboys, their playing from behind resulted in 400 passing yards from Eli), but the way this season is going for them so far, it's looking pretty grim until they show otherwise.

Or another way to look at it is that projections aren't necessarily meant to predict exactly what a player is going to do, that's nearly impossible, in cases like this I'd say it's more a matter of "he could outperform, but at this juncture it may be wishful thinking to expect that this will be the week they completely reverse the trend".

While we're at it.... I've been watching a whole heck of a lot of the NFL Network lately and have noticed something odd.

(I realize their website sucks balls, but their network too?)

When they list out their top fantasy picks of the week, they include projected points. Kinda looks like this:

Quarterbacks

#1 - Drew Brees (projected points: 21)

#2 - Aaron Rodgers (projected points: 19)

#3 - Peyton Manning (projected points: 24)

#4 - Andrew Luck (projected points: 18)

#5 - Robert Griffin III (projected poitns: 20)

And it's like this for all positions... and sometimes the discrepancies between the players vs. the rank is more than just a couple. I don't get it.

Could it be like the Huddle, where one person (people, or computer) does the projection and another does the ranking? I follow another site some and their projections and rankings are tied to each other.

I'm still fairly new to the Huddle, though this is my second year. Do you need a certain kind of account to get rankings? I haven't payed or anything, just stumbled across the forums last year and made a free account. This really is an awesome site though, I'm glad I found it.

Yep there is a whole site full of info that you can get when you pay. Some may be available without paying, or during the off season.

Try this

Maybe it's their rest of season rankings, but with projection this week.

Though of course that wouldn't make it any less confusing.

Well the best way to look at this is from the perspective that given all the other options and the way Eli has been playing, I and many others it's seems have come to the conclusion that, with only 3 weeks into the season mind you, the Giants SUCK. I mean there is really no reason to be optimistic about the numbers here. The Giants suck and that smell you can't seem to get over is how much they're stinkin up the joint.

I've always viewed projections and rankings as slightly different - the latter is a general placement of who you would prefer to play over others at a position, taking into account matchup and general ability; the former is really just guesswork that gives you ballpark numbers. For instance, TDs are incredibly difficult to predict - are you really going to choose WRx over WRy because a site thinks x is going to have 3 receptions for 60 yards and 2TDs (21 pts) and y will have 8 receptions for 100 yards (18 pts)? I certainly hope not. In that scenario, I would expect a highly utilized player like y would have the higher "ranking" despite the lower projected points.

That's just how I've always looked at it.

Sounds like a bitter cowboy fan to me. I wasn't even talking about how much the Giants suck, I simply used them as an example to talk about stat projections. However, I understand your frustrations as a Dallas fan, you know, not being relevant in a long time and what not. So enjoy the good times while they last, because you know you team isn't going anywhere. You can hate on the Giants all you want, but we still won 2 improbable super bowls in 5 years while your Cowboys choked out of the playoffs while spending more money then probably everyone in the league. Pathetic. The Cowboys franchise used to be of the classiest and successful in the league, but the glory days are over my friend. I also found this video for your enjoyment:

Eli has scored (in my league) 30, 9 and 2 . Why would a score in the 8-10 range be such a bad estimate. What makes you think he'll score like he did in game on, instead of more like the other two games?

Cowboyz1 may be the biggest Cowboy homer here, but he is right, the Giants suck and you just can't seem to get passed it (since all your examples are still just about the Giants and how the scores or ratings are so horrible). How many SB they have won, and how bad the Cowboys have been recently has nothing to do with any of this.

You guys are clearly not the brightest people. When did I say the Giants are good right now? "All your examples are still.." - Buddy, learn how to read, I used one example, one time. Do you guys get a kick out of teaming up on someone who simply wanted to get peoples opinions on projections out of curiosity? "The Giants suck and you can't seem to get passed it." - Please give me an example of this. Again, I'm happy with the Giants success recently and I'm fine, trust me. Is it a coincidence all the people giving me a hard time are fans of crappy teams? Enjoy your internet fame, Mr. Browns fan.

I've noticed that too. That plus the commentary made me decide that the coverage was worthless. Granted, I was pretty quick to turn it off -- but it didn't seem like there was anything worthwhile in terms of content. Some of the suggested sits make it seem like they're catering to 8 team leagues.

NFL.com/NFL Network uses EA sports to produce there weekly projections. They basically play a simulated game of Madden and take the stats..worst projections out there..This week they have SJax projected for 18 points even though he is not playing..just a example of how bad there projection's are..I do really enjoy watching NFL Fantasy Live though..
