Scorcher
When I did a Yahoo draft they critiqued and graded everyone's draft. I had Schuab as my back up QB. They said bad pick and that I should grab Freeman! He had some good games last year. Unfortunately it looks as if Schiano really had it in for him and followed through with a hostile environment. Either the coach had it in for him or he just sucks. If he was any good the Bux would have gotten offers for him so it looks like the meano Schiano isn't the only one who "has it out for him". Savage Beatings
Wow! Outright released... I would NOT have expected that. Must have some SERIOUS off-field issues.
kwolf68
Wow! Outright released... I would NOT have expected that. Must have some SERIOUS off-field issues. No just not very good. He came into the league had a couple solid years and then other teams figured him out. He's now bench fodder at best.

As someone who has lived through the tortuous careers of many starting QB's in Minnesota, I can tell you that even weak to mediocre QB's have value to a good number of teams out there. Intersting to me that Freeman no longer fits that description.

Intersting to me that Freeman no longer fits that description. LOL, I understand (I'm a Bears fan so I am not any more jovial about it than you). I just think Freeman lacks dynamics...he's a pure pocket passer with a slow "clock" and suspect feet and feel in the pocket. That's just my take...I had him on my fantasy team last year and saw many of his games. I was very displeased with the player. Sure he'd heave up a bomb or two that V-Jax would go snag and all was well now and then, but overall he was one of the worst QBs in the league last year. Or it could be that teams didn't want to absorb his $6million dollar contract and trade anybody to that hell hole that Schiano is running. If nobody signs him off waivers then you can say nobody was interested in him.
LbNiners
he can't be worse than Gabbert...Jax needs him.
kwolf68
he can't be worse than Gabbert...Jax needs him. Gabbert sux, but Freeman gives them no help...Jax needs about 15 new players. A truly horrific team all the way around. On second thought this may be a good move...bring in Freeman so you can say "you tried" and he stinks and still get the #1 pick overall. A win win (that's if anyone down there even notices) Edited October 3, 2013 by kwolf68
Scorcher
jmo but I think when they started dismantling him earlier in the season they already knew what the end result would be. So instead of just saying "hey you're not working" and going from there they discredit him first and then wonder if someone wants to trade? I just think it could have been handled better. If they needed to replace him fine, just not done in a very professional way. Edited October 3, 2013 by Scorcher
nelsosi
he can't be worse than Gabbert...Jax needs him. Jax doesn't want an upgrade. They want to finish last. Wouldn't surprise me if Freeman remains unsigned until someone's QB goes down to injury later in the year.
coordi88
I used to like Freeman so I want to produce a scenario where he isn't addicted to adhd scripts and falling apart off the field. The year after they were pretty good in 2010 they ended up 4-12. Glancing through the season they were 4-2 with a blowout loss to the 49ers. Then they lost a couple of close-ish games, and the next 8 or whatever the other team threw up 40+ every game. They bring Schiano in the next season and they go 7-9. Maybe the team checked out and Freeman never checked back in. It's possible that Schiano is a complete screw up when it comes to player management on a pro level, and Freeman just hates it in Tampa now. There have been reports coming out for a while about Schiano not handling the players well. I just have high hopes that Freeman will perform better in a different system. As for no one trading for him... Seems pretty standard to me. If they are calling you for a trade after the circus that has been Tampa the last week or two, you have to know they are going to release him at some point. Obviously both sides want out. This way you don't inherit any of his salary or give up any of your players/picks.

Any trade would have included the other team picking up the remaining games of his. $6.5M salary. Not sure how many teams have that cap room right now. By letting him get cut, another team can pay him the vet minimum for this season and the Bucs have to pay the rest.
Endzone Is Near
Wow! Outright released... I would NOT have expected that. Must have some SERIOUS off-field issues. Actually I was reading yesterday that he had asked to be released, so it wasn't completely unwarranted in that regard.
MustOfBeenDrunk
I still think Freeman will sign and play for another team this year
