Fantasy IR

It seems to be a grey area. I didn't post because I have any issues , was just wondering what different leagues do. I have been in some where player out for week = fantasy IR and some others where only NFL IR = fantasy IR. I am curious as to what different leagues do. I would imagine the people on these boards would be more for NFL IR = fantasy IR.

18 man roster league - no IR rule

15 man roster league - one IR, must be Out, effectively an extra roster spot

16 man roster league - one IR, must be Questionable or worse, replacement player is temporary and must be dropped on Tuesday.

The way ESPN works is that the player must be "Out". It sort of is an extra roster spot, but it becomes infuriating sometimes. For example, right now, SJax is out for a few weeks and everyone knows it, but after every week, they put him back to questionable until the first injury report comes out reiterating that he is out. The problem is that this report is on Wednesday afternoon and waivers run on Wednesday at like 4am, so SJax becomes an ineligible player in the IR, which will prevent you from participating in the waiver run if he is in your IR. The thing that pisses me off about it, is that ESPN takes it upon themselves to switch him to questionable without any additional news from the team or the league. They ought not change his status from whatever it was last week until new official information is available (i.e. and injury report). But that is typical ESPN arrogance for you.

Injured Reserve

Any player that is listed as Out, Doubtful, or Questionable because of a PHYSICAL injury maybe be placed on IR. Each team has 2 IR spots. If the Team places the player on IR, then that team may then pick up a player from free agency pool using either blind waivers or first come first serve waivers. DT/ST may not be placed on IR.

If a player that is on IR does play that week, the add-on player is automatically put back into free agency and the IR player is placed back on the active roster. Also, if the add-on player was in the starting lineup, the IR player is inserted into the starting lineup in place of the add-on player for that week.

If any Team trades for an injured player, they may place him on IR and pick up another player after the current game week is finished. If a team is trading an injured player, that player must be on the active roster in order to be traded. In other words, if a player is using an IR spot on the team roster, the team must drop the add-on player (if applicapable) and reinstate the injured player back on to the active team roster before trading him.

In my league, if a player is on season ending IR or long term IR, you can get a player for him. If he is week to week or healthy scratch, then no.
