Houston Backfield?

Ben Tate (ribs) is practicing Wednesday.

Tate has four cracked ribs. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle believes Tate will be able to play Sunday night. The Texans can wrap his torso up and apply extra padding to the area. It's fair to wonder how effective Tate will be, though. Arian Foster (hamstring) did not participate in Wednesday's practice. Oct 30 - 2:25 PM

Both Foster and Tate will play. Graham and Karim will provide depth and be afterthoughts. Both Graham and Karim may not even be active on game day.

So, I gather from the responses that either Tate and/or Foster will suit-up this week...from John McLain's tweet (posted by darin3, above), it is believed Tate will be a "go" regardless of his effectiveness, and Foster is still up in the air since he's still not practicing, yet, this week...I guess there's no need to worry about third in line...LOL

I am a little surprised I haven't seen more mention of the Texans cutting a few players recently for smoking geef in the hotel. One of those players was Cierre Wood who had won the 3rd string RB job in camp by edging out Deji Karim whom I believe Hou just re-signed. I had posed the question a while back on if it was a good time to grab Cierre Wood. Evidently not. And not sure there is much reason to be excited about Karim but I think he may be the guy most likely to get playing time if either or both Foster and Tate can't go.

FWIW, I really liked Graham of the 3 UDFAs HOU had in camp. The guy was really productive at PIT and looked like he had a pro compatible set of skills, but the knee injury really set him back. I was shocked to see a guy like Wood win that competition, and made me think Graham wasn't fully recovered.

Took a flyer on Graham for a PS slot this week in a contract BOTH league after seeing him reacquired. We'll see

Wednesday has turned into an extra day off for injured and susceptible players. Even if a player doesn't take part on Thursday's practice does not guarantee anything anymore.

You really cannot make judgments on anyone until Friday reports come out.

Tate may be one tough SOB, but I don't see how a RB with 4 fractured ribs does much in a NFL game. RBs get pounded almost every play and that injury not only hurts like all hell, but also makes it a lot tougher to catch your breath.

Which is exactly why I won't be starting any HOU RB this weekend, barring a situation where I literally have no other options. Too many unknowns, involving Tate. If I bench him, he's bound to go for 15-20 fantasy points. If I start him, he'll take a viscious hit on about his third carry of the game, and will be a non-factor from there on out. Either way, no HOU RB is a safe play, IMO.

Put it this way... In a league where I have Gore on a bye, I have to start two RB's between Ridley, Bolden, BJGE, and Tate. I'm leaning towards starting the two NE backs, thinking that will at least get me something (most likely). If Bolden (who was questionable last I saw) doesn't play, for some reason, I'll go back to Tate as my last resort (and, like I said, that would be because I would literally be out of options).

yeah, HOU is a mess right now...the main purpose i opened this thead was because earlier in the week, i thought i may have to reach really, really deep in my 14-team league to find an rb this week...although, it appears now (keeping my fingers crossed) i've avoided the z. stacy bullet this week, so i have a. morris and z. stacy to start...without stacy, i was down to the likes of l. miller (hate making decisions on committee backs playing tnf!), s. greene, and b. brown...i know, a really sad state of affairs...anyway, was looking for a possible lead on who might get the bulk of carries in both foster's and tate's absence as a mere, last minute back-up plan...
