Cowboys Win, Romo comes through in the clutch to avert disaster

Cardiac Cowboys come through this week. Thank GOD!

Well it took all of 59:30 to put down the Vikings but Slip comes though with a 90 yard drive to seal the deal in what would have been a season ending lose for the boys and their fans.

For all the abuse Romo takes for not being "Clutch" late in games he fed into both sides of the argument today. Late in the forth quarter he was picked with little more then 4 minutes left, down 3 to the 1-6 Vikings. At that point you could here the entire world of Cowboys Fans take a huge crap, along with a chorus laughter from the millions of Romo haters. However, with just 2:35 left the Cowboys D stepped up and got the ball back.

That's when my man Slip went on to drive 90 yards and a game winning drive that was a work of art. Never mind he had just thrown a pick, never mind that it was the 1-6 Vikings they were having to desperately rally to beat, Slip just put this team on his back like he has done all year and won the ball game. It's pretty apparent that if the Cowboys offense is going to score Tony Romo is going to throw it period.

I was worried about how this team would respond after getting their hearts ripped out last week. They showed fight and though they are undermanned and short handed and a lot of positions they came through and battled all day to get this one.

Here are a few things I know about this team:

1. The personnel department needs a game ball. They keep bringing in D lineman off the street that are ballin. Everett Brown the newest member of the line had a sack fumble, and was creating havoc all day. Selvie the other DE had a sack fumble that resulted in a recovery by Hayden for a touchdown. I will tell you this, with Ware, Spencer, Crawford, Brown, Lissemore, Bass, Jones, and Ratliff all out or no longer on the team it's hard to imagine the D line playing as well as it has with guys that were not even in training camp or playing football for that matter. That's ALL the 4 starters and the backups all gone people. Credit Rod Marinelli for doing on hell of a job getting these guys to play hard and coaching them up to play well. This D has 21 turnovers this year which is keeping them in games.

2. This O line is not very good. I thought they had addressed the middle of the line but it has not gelled yet. Their better then last year but far from where it needs to be. If I see that Jumbo package one more time on 3rd and short.........EERrrrrrrrr. They just can't block in short yardage. Someone gets beat and shoots the gap and into the backfield they camp. It's really getting to be stupid. As soon as I see it come out and they get lined up I say get the punter ready. The tight ends can't block a lick. Even Witten is poor at the point of attack. Waters going down weakened an already challenge line.

3. Slip is playing some of the best football of his career. Yet another 300 yard game. If his receivers would quit dropping the ball this game would not have been this close and he would have been closer to 400 yards. Say what you want but going 90 yards to win that game was huge. I don't care who you're playing at that point any Defense is tough to score on when they know you have to throw and have time working against you. That drive was awesome. Saved the season for at least one more week. However, Romo throwing 51 times a game is going to end up getting him hurt.

I don't know what's going to happen with this team down the stretch but getting Ware and Austin back could take both of sides of the ball up a tick. Now if that is enough to make a serious push in the playoffs? Who knows but I like the fight in this team. I hate the stupidity but i love the fight.

5-4 going to New Orleans and then a bye. If somehow we can find a way to be 6-4 going into the bye. I just feel like that gyroscope up all their arses will tug them to back to 5-5 driving full throttle to a third straight 8-8 season.

They say a win is a win but I will tell you this. This win was a HUGE, but should not have been that difficult to get. I know anything can happen in the NFL but this Defense made Ponder look much better then he is.

Brees, at home, will light this defense up. book it

Uhhh scares the hell out of me. Only chance is pass rush and Ware usually plays well against Brees. Got to have him back come game time. Got to...........

Huge win against the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the NFL. You guys really proved something at home winning that one...LOL.

Look, the NFC East is awful. All the teams in the NFC are awful this season. The Boys should win it at 9-7 or so. Then will be a quick out once they get in.

That is the way it is this season. By default the Boys will win the division and make the playoffs, but they aren't any good as we all know. They are just the best of a very bad NFC East group.

I hate to say it but I do think the NFC is very weak this year. I agree with you. I have been of the opinion that Seattle was top dog in the NFC and probably still am because the 49ers have been inconsistent. Now the Hawks are looking very vulnerable, especially against the run. Unless Manning chokes again in the playoffs, I think the Broncos just steamroll everyone including whoever the NFC serves up in the superbowl. Dallas probably has the offensive fire power to hang with the Saints as they do seem to play up to the competition but the Saints at home, on an emotional night where they put 3 guys in the ring of fame, after losing to the Jets, are gonna be a bitch

Home field in the NFC will be the key. If the Saints get it, they will be very tough to beat in their dome. If the Hawks get it, I don't see anyone beating them up there (yesterday was a clear case of them over looking the Bucs IMO). If the Niners get it that gives them a chance to beat those other two teams. And if GB gets it, that is their only real hope to make the SB IMO.

In the AFC, I don't love Denver. I question them once the weather gets colder and nasty. How will Peyton do? BUT on the flip side I don't love anyone in the AFC really. Indy is good, but I am not sure they are that good. Cincy we see is up and down. And NE just seems to win, but they are certainly not a big time team.

The SB being outdoors in potential bad weather I think also hurts Denver, unless they get NO in the SB. I still like the division winner between SF and Seattle to make the SB, and most likely will pick that team to win the SB as well.

We will see who has the edge as a team always gets hot down the stretch. Whom ever that team is out of the handful that are in it has the best shot to win it all.

Sure wish NO won Sunday because going there having just lost to the Jets, is going to be exactly what Whomper said "a bitch".

The Cowboys have a strange way of always playing to their opponent's level. They barely beat the Vikings and almost beat the Broncos. What the hell is with this team? Something is just off and I can never put my finger on what exactly causes them to be so erratic.

I think one reason is because they are a one dimensional team. A good running game helps the passing game, the defense, creates flexibility in an offensive gameplan, protects leads, alleviates pressure from the QB having to "always do it all". And Dallas wants NONE of that...just throw throw throw.

I am not even convinced they win the East. The NFC East is atrocious and in an atrocious division things are much more volatile, unpredictable. Hell, I could even see the Redskins making a run at the division, although their defense is likely worse than Dallas, however, I like their offense much better if RGIII is 100% (although they got amazingly stupid in the Denver game by abandoning the run so maybe I speak to soon regarding the Redskins).

I don't disagree with any of this

This may be a case where there has been NO continuity on the defensive side of he ball with not a single player on the D line that was here during training camp except for hatch, the secondary banged up AND a new defensive system to learn. I wonder if it is even possible to get organized on D this year. I hope so, it would be nice to see a better d late for a change.

Meh. I'd rather have Romo throw for another 500 and 5 and lose. This not taking advantage of weaksauce pass defenses is really starting to irk me.

But I'm right there with you. No matter how many warts right now, all that matters is the W. See Seattle the last two weeks. Losing either game likely means losing home field for the playoffs. And while the run defense looks atrocious, it will get fixed. And there's both tackles and Percy Harvin coming back on the offensive side in the next 2 weeks. So expect a lot more ground and pound with the o-line intact with Harvin in the mix to boost the passing game when needed. That's going to keep the Seattle offense on the field running a lot more clock, give them more early points, and pretty much put the other team in catchup mode more.
