askinner13
In the 4th Quarter of Colts/Texans, Case Keenum ran a bootleg and was tackled behind the line of scrimmage. Shouldn't that be a sack? Angerer does not appear to have gotten credit for sack. 4th Q; 2-8-HOU 45(2:54) (Shotgun) C.Keenum right end to HOU 42 for -3 yards (P.Angerer). BA Baracus
It could be ruled a rush if it was a designed run. If he tucked it and ran it will be ruled a rush. If he was looking downfield and palming the ball it will be ruled a sack. Either way, Elias will straighten it out by Thursday.

askinner13
Thanks for the clarification! I was hoping my DST would get that extra point for the sack.
Big John
It is a judgment call reviewed afterward, but if it is ruled that no pass was intended to be thrown in that play, there is no sack.
stevegrab
Was a designed run and he wasn't looking to pass...when that happens it's just a tackle and not a sack. Just to be clear (if possible) what action has to be taken by the QB (or whoever has the ball) to consider it as a passing play (and therefore a sack). If he looks around to pass but then takes off and scrambles is that a run? I know these are highly subjective (even the review by Elias is, but they probably try to normalize things to some standard). Sometimes I'll watch a game and hear the announcer say it is a sack, then wonder if it really was (for example when QB took off running through the pocket after looking to pass). I'll shoot a contact I have at the NFL an email and see if he can supply me with a definition.
nelsosi
Not sure exactly how they decide on some plays, but that one last night was clearly a designed run. He faked the handoff and then immediately tucked to run. IMO it was scored correctly as a rush.

nelsosi
Huge thanks for that. I always looked at the QB to get a feel for the intent - it never occurred to me to look at the linemen and WR to see if they were blocking for a run, but that makes total sense.
