peteteacher2001
I am commish in a league and just a member of another and we are having IR issues. Do you put players on IR who are OUT for the week or do they have to be on the actual NFL IR? Just curious to see how my huddle brethren run their leagues. MustOfBeenDrunk
every league is different that is why we spell it out in the rules 4.6 IR Transactions 1) During the NFL season a team may place a player on IR if they appear on their NFL teams Injured Reserve List. The owner may then utilize the blind bid waiver wire process to replace the player on their active roster. 2) IR moves are free 3) No free agent who is listed as out and then drafted or acquire via the waiver wire is eligible for the IR wire. 4) A team may only have a maximum 2 players on the IR list at anytime. 5) The official site for determining a player’s status will be NFL.com 6) A player on the IR list may not be traded to another team. delusions of grandeur
I only have IR spots in my dynasty leagues, but the player has to be on NFL IR to be eligible (pretty much just a way to be able to stash the guy for next year and open up a roster spot). I'm about to have to go look at what we decided on players eligible to return from IR, but IMO, if you can open up a roster spot to bring them back, why not? From some of the threads I've seen regarding IR in redraft and even for players listed as questionable, it sounds like a total freaking mess. I'd rather add a couple roster spots to deal with injuries (or alternatively have so few that it keeps the WW filled with good prospects and forces teams to decide to stash or replenish). buddahj
My two local leagues use IR slots. The player has to be doubtful, out or on injured reserve to be eligible for one of the IR slots. As the commish in one of the leagues, I usually send out a text to let someone know if they have player that is no longer IR eligible. Def.
If it helps, here's the rule wording from my local: Any player that is listed as Out, Doubtful, or Questionable because of a PHYSICAL injury maybe be placed on IR. Each team has 2 IR spots. If the Team places the player on IR, then that team may then pick up a player from free agency pool using either blind waivers or first come first serve waivers. DT/ST may not be placed on IR. If a player that is on IR does play that week, the add-on player is automatically put back into free agency and the IR player is placed back on the active roster. Also, if the add-on player was in the starting lineup, the IR player is inserted into the starting lineup in place of the add-on player for that week. If any Team trades for an injured player, they may place him on IR and pick up another player after the current game week is finished. If a team is trading an injured player, that player must be on the active roster in order to be traded. Any time a player is being moved from IR to the active roster, a player must be released into free agency or another player must be moved to IR. archiebonker
MustOfBeenDrunk I really like they way you guys do it. We just went with a IR this year and I find its not being used for what it was intended for. But I do like the way you have IR is NFL IR. I also like the rule you have where you can't Draft or pickup on waivers a player that is on the IR and then placed on IR. And finally, I like that you have a no trade policy for IR players. That has been the biggest problem with the IR with our league.

stevegrab
This unless your in a keeper or dynasty We're a keeper and still don't have IR, but we have a bench that is the same size as our starting line-up and no position limits for the team. I've seen players injured for the season retained by many teams. An IR spot would be ideal, but most teams can and do handle it without one. archiebonker
So you guys think we should get rid of it eh? I've been pushing for that too. League is split. So I was thinking of a compromise. But this argument will come after the season is over. Just want to be ready for my argument, to get rid of it or have some strict rules. stevegrab
We have 16 teams, 9 starters, 5 bench. 16 teams does change things some. We have 12 teams, 9 start 9 bench. Hard to bump up your bench too much in a larger league, you already have fewer free agents avaialbe than we do, and pickings are pretty slim. Maybe try to bump bench by one instead of the IR spots. Or like others have set, use more rigid rules (only players on IR, and what happens if/when they do return to active status).
archiebonker
Ya, might be the best argument and might be the easiest way of making everyone happy by being stricter with the rules. Really liked that rule of not being able to pickup a guy who's injured and put him in the IR spot. That would make the IR spot used for what it was intended for. archiebonker
Ya, we had injured guys drafted, then put on IR all season. We've had guys on IR traded. These rules Drunk was talking about, makes some good rules to go by.

MikesVikes
Now that the NFL has the rule of "IR designated for Return" there may be a better reason to have the IR rule in your league then ever before. I know that MFL tells you if a player is on IR and warns you when he is off.

This In my Dynasty league, I have Vick Ballard, David Wilson, Mike Williams, and Shane Vereen on IR. the first 3 will obviously stay there for the rest of the season but I am able to bring back Vereen if/when he's off the NFL IR. I just need to have an opening on my active roster to accommodate him. I also had Vereen in a redraft where we have no IR. in that league, I obviously had to decide if I wanted to hang on to him all along or get rid of him. I dropped him and picked him back up off waivers. Leagues that allow a player to be put on IR that is not either on actual NFL IR or IRDFR are setting themselves up for headaches IMO.
