Zooty
I'm of the opinion that Bens passing yds should stop when the pass catcher 1st laterals...it's all rushing yds from there. and yes,Im aware that no one really cares what my opinion is, but the way it's scored now is stupid You'll change your mind the 1st time it helps you
HowboutthemCowboys
I wouldn't complain about it as much at least This play didn't affect the outcome of a game for me FWIW
HowboutthemCowboys
proving that the way this play was scored is stupid is the fact that none of the players that got receiving yards on that play were credited with a reception Edited December 12, 2013 by HowboutthemCowboys
keggerz
proving that the way this play was scored is stupid is the fact that none of the players that got receiving yards on that play were credited with a reception It started as a receiving play, so it's receiving yards OK, I checked and got clarification on how a lateral play like that is scored. To help illustrate I'll give a couple of examples. For each example let's say that the offense is starting on their own 20 which means they have to gain 80 yards to get a TD. Example 1 Pass goes to WR1 for 10 yards (30 yd line) and he laterals the ball back 5 yards (25 yard line) to RB1. RB1 fields the ball and runs for 4 yards and gets tackled on the 29 yard line. Scoring for that play is: WR1: 5 yards RB1: 4 yards Net yards: 9 yards Example 2 LOS is the 20 again. 20 yard pass is completed to WR1 (40 yard line). WR1 pitches backwards 1 yard (39 yard line) to WR2. WR2 runs backward 10 yards (29 yard line). WR2 laterals 29 yard line) to RB1. RB1 runs 71 yards for a TD. Scoring for that play would be: WR1:19 yards WR2: -10 yards RB1: 71 yards Net yards: 80 Example 3 LOS is the 20 again. 30 yard pass is completed to WR1 (50 yard line). He pitches the ball backwards 5 yards (<45 yard line) to WR2. WR2 immediately (without running at all) throws the ball backwards 10 yards (<35 yard line) to TE1 TE1 immediately pitches the ball back 5 yards (<30 yard line) to RB1 RB1 runs 70 yards to a TD. Scoring for that play would be: WR1: 25 yards WR2: -10 yards TE1: -5 yards RB1: 70 yards (+TD) Net Yards: 80 Do those examples help explain what happened? keggerz
proving that the way this play was scored is stupid is the fact that none of the players that got receiving yards on that play were credited with a reception Right, there is only 1 reception/play...and net yards have to balance. HowboutthemCowboys
Right, there is only 1 reception/play...and net yards have to balance. Oh I understand how it's scored, and like always I appreciate what you're posting...it's just stupid (IMO) that Ben got 5 yds receiving and no receptions on that play. IMO, they should be rushing yds How can anyone's statline read 0 receptions for 5 receiving yards? Makes no sense

IMO, they should be rushing yds How can anyone's statline read 0 receptions for 5 receiving yards? Makes no sense Its just one of those strange things in this sport we all love. It doesn't happen that often. Likewise it would look silly to have QB 4/6 passing and then have 10 total receptions But it does make sense that the QB gets credit for the full passing play, since it is a continuation of that play. Hence you cannot have them be rushing yards.
