Cutler Sunday Night

Not a comfortable situation. If the Packers beat the Steelers and the Giants beat the Lions (unlikely but possible), then the Bears have nothing to play for Sunday night. The division would then be decided the following week in the Bears/Packers game regardless. So Cutler and his weapons could either sit or play a partial game.

The Bears play the Sunday night game and the other two are four o'clock games. So, if you're planning on playing Cutler on Sunday night, like I was, by the time you know the situation, the only safety net you could have would be Matt Ryan or Kaep for Monday night. So if you rely on Cutler and don't own either of those two...welcome to a potential blank at QB. Too high a risk for championship week.

There is no way NY beats DET at home. Eli Manning is the Ian Baker Finch of the NFL. He has his lost mojo and mechanics. There are other reasons to worry about Cutler but a NY victory shouldn't be high on the list. The primary worry is that Cutler could play like...well, Cutler. For me, I also have Kaepernick with a great match up which may be reason enough to sit pouty boy. But not the Giants.

Hey, I'm sorry, you guys can carry on like there's a 100% certainty that the Lions win, but I've watched the NFL (hell, sports in general) for long enough to know better. The possibility is low, for sure, but the risk here is possibly taking a blank at QB and spotting your opponent 15-30 points in the championship match. We're not talking about a TE or flex here.

I want to run with him in this nice match-up, but nervous as hell about it. Oh, and I wouldn't be worried either if Kaep was my other option this week.

How are you spotting 15 - 30 points ? at the very best it would be 1/2 half of a game and no way any QB scores 60 pts

. :pickle: ..and that would be me!. Got both Cutler and Kaep. Rarely does that type of scheduling voodoo work in my favor. Truthfully, I didn't even realize the 49ers played on MNF unit I read this post. Depending on how my championship game is going I will decide who to start on Sunday night, If losing by a pantload I'll go with Cutler (higher risk with picks and higher reward with match up) but if I just need to cruise for 10 to 15 pts than Kaep draws the assignment.

I think that they will knock the rust off Cutler by playing him this week. How's that? I didn't even mention the Giants beating the Lions. When somebody says there's no way that the Giants lose to the Lions they are giving you advice on their opinion, which looks like you asked for. I didn't see it the same way do did. They don't think it is 100% either. Does that help?

This. I'd be more worried about Forte, Marshall or Jeffrey sitting.

Yeah, I have Cousins & Cutler too. Maybe I'm being an alarmist, not sure. I posted the thread to see if there might be a little reassurance that Cutler would be okay to start, because I do want to go with him.

I've since heard and read a fair amount of opinions that they would probably let him play either way, because he needs to play to get sharp for the playoffs, and a possibility that it could help the seeding. That offers at least some reassurance and confidence. Someone telling me that there's no way the Lions lose does not. If all signs pointed to Trestman benching Cutler with a Lions loss, I will still bench him as well, no matter how remote that possibility. I just couldn't put a whole season of working to get to finals at risk like that.

I assume this is a joke. The Bears and the Eagles are still having to play for seeding no matter how you slice it. And seeding is important. No players are going to be benched for this game on either side no matter how the early games go, I am certain of that. C'mon already. I'm really getting tired of ppl talking about "resting players". Are the Eagles going to rest players as well?

You have to play like you think you are going to win in the playoffs. If they lose to Philly, they have to play in Philly in the NFC Championship if somehow both win against Seattle/NO or Carolina. That is a big enough incentive to not get your team out of sync and thus miss the playoffs completely. The #1 and #2 seeds are set. Seattle (with a remote chance of SF) and most likely the winner of the NO/Carolina game. No other teams have a chance at the byes.

Also, Cutler has played one game now since coming back, pretty sure you want him sharp in the playoffs. The Bears offense looks good enough to play with anyone, so getting the 3 seed could be huge if they continue to play well. I think getting Cutler sharp and getting the 3 seed is important enough and way outweighs getting rest for the week 17. Getting rest for week 17 makes the ultimate goal getting into the playoffs. The Bears ultimate goal is winning the Super Bowl and resting starters in week 16 goes against that goal. No Bears fan cares about just getting in, they want to host the NFC Championship game at Soldier Field.

Won't happen, CHI sits everyone in week 16. Then they get beat in week 17. Then Trestman gets run out of town because "his guys weren't sharp."

Think like a coach and not like a fan.

Nice post from a fan....unfortunately the real coach is open to resting his players, and has stated as such, so it at least has to be considered.

Marc said he hasn't really thought much about resting players. He said the goal is to win the game. He has been very truthful this season which is the opposite of what was spewed from Lovie's mouth for years. Bush has shown he can't do much in this offense. I have to roll with Forte in one league and the only thing I am worried about is if the Bears get a big lead. So....I'm not too worried. Not with McCoy and Foles throwing. Listen to the Score in Chicago AM 670 for the most accurate info.

Win that game, and Trestman might wind up resting his starters in Week 17.

This coming from the article you just posted. Trestman know he has to win the game THIS WEEK!! He will not rest players if he knows he needs to win this week. Unless they are blowing out the Eagles buy 4 TDs, which is very unlikely, he may consider it. Bottom line he is not resting anyone.

I think that we are overlooking the difference between "resting" and "being cautious". I seriously doubt that either team sits down starters just to rest them. The real risk is that a tweaked ankle or shoulder could get them yanked pretty quickly whereas they could play through the injury were the season truly on the line.
