gardenthug
Do any of you use a cut off date for keeping a player. As in, after a certain date a player that wasn't on your roster cannot be kept.
Big John
Yes, usually 1 week prior to the draft or closer to the draft date.
theirish
Yeah my league does it a week before, however if that player has a season-ending (or longer then a couple weeks) injury they can change their keeper 1 hour prior to draft. gardenthug
Yes, usually 1 week prior to the draft or closer to the draft date. Sorry, I should've been more clear. I meant an in-season cut off date. My league only does 2 keepers per team.
Big Country
This is something that is very league dependent. None of the leagues I have been in had any rule with an inseason cut off date. Basically, if a player was on your final roster, they were eligible to be kept. However, I know some leagues do have these type of rules - some say a player must have been on your roster the entire season, some say only drafted players are eligible to be kept, etc. It's as unique as each league, I would say a vast majority of leagues have no restriction, and if the player is on your roster, they ar eeligible to be kept.
LosGatosEnFuegos
The start of the playoffs should be the cutoff for keepable players. Eliminated teams shouldn't be allowed to make roster moves and it gives playoff teams an unfair advantage to be able to pick up players and keep them when other teams can no longer make moves. The way we deal with that is teams in the playoffs can add players, but they are only temporary and go back to the free agent pool after the season is over. We didn't like allowing teams already in the playoffs (winning money, with good players to be kept) to have an unfair advantage. We'll add 2-3 roster spots when playoffs start, and the fee to add players goes up (every player you add through FA/waivers/trade costs $2, goes up to $5 for playoffs). Usually only 2-3 players max added during the 3 week playoff period.
