Goodbye Roger Goodell?

I read an article yesterday that said the NJ police handle security for the casino so the NFL going to the police to get the tape was the correct move. They claim to not have received it. If that is true, Goodell should be OK. If it comes out that his office did in fact have it, he's toast.

The court of public opinion has already convicted and sentenced Goodell (tape or no) its just a matter of how long until the owners feel compelled to act.

If this story is true (big if and based on lots of hearsay) its going to blow up big, and ruin at least the next few weeks of the season.

The NFL is a monster corporation and like all monster corps they feel like they can do whatever... If they knew about this tape and thought it would stay buried then they are fools. Goodell should be out if he knew... Goodell should be reprimanded at least for not getting the tape of the incident before ruling, if they would not release it.

My question is how does a prosecutor look at the tape and say "Nah, I won't prosecute him." ????? what more do you need to see? You would not need confirmation from the woman/wife with that video...

I think eventually Goodell will step down, whether on his own or at the behest of the owners ... simply to remove the whole lightening rod he is holding up right now

I agree. The court of public opinion has already decided he is guilty and needs to go. The NFL owners will have to do something for fear that the product will be harmed. They may wait it out for a while so that he continues to take more of the heat.

PS Agree with dfv87, still have a major issue (moreso than with NFL) with the justice system for letting him off so lightly.

Everybody f*cked up here ... I personally think somebody in the NFL or NFLPA greased some palms and thought they had the video safely stashed away forever without realizing that in today's day and age something of this nature could never be buried forever. If the video never comes to light everybody eventually gets over their grumbling and moves on. I think actions by NFL players are routinely swept under the rug to protect owner investments. Then once the video was released Goodell got that "oh crap feeling" and over reacted in the hopes that his over reaction would quiet everything down.

Clearly lots of people involved made poor decisions all the way around.

Will the NJ LEO who sent the tape to the NFL be prosecuted, if he wasn't authorized to release it?

Maybe the woman (the one who left th VM for NJ LEO that sent the video) at NFL HQ never turned the video over to anybody, and instead sat on, then sold it to TMZ for a breaking news story during week 1

Yep. The worst thing he could have done is suspend Rice after the video. The Ravens would have, in all likelihood, cut him and no team would (hopefully) touch him so the suspension was kind of pointless. Instead, he overreacts due to public pressure and now is getting heat from all sides and if Rice gets reinstated through appeal, Goodell looks even worse.

Soooo much stuff out there.Cant remember where but read somewhere it would be illegal for the casino or police to hand it over as evidence to the ravens or anyone for that matter

I can't remember if it was the NFL or the police that said they were not allowed to release the video while the investigation was active.

I don't recall if the investigation was ongoing when the 2 game suspension was handed down. If so, then there was no legal way the NFL could have seen the tape. If the suspension was handed down after the investigation was over, then shame on the NFL for not getting it.

Simply confirms what I think most people already believed... How could the NFL have not seen the video prior. And if the NFL saw it, odds are the Ravens did, too. Ugly cluster-f*** of a mess they created.

If the Ravens saw the tape..Newsome and Harbaugh might be gone too

Ray is a hot potato. Even if the NFL suspension is overturned, he would still have to be signed by another team. I'm not sure any team owner is going to be willing to go anywhere near him until this situation cools down.

Heads are going to roll though. Goodell's knee-jerk reaction to the video's release and his willingness to disregard his own policy is just proof that he will not hesitate to climb over sacrificial lambs in order to stay on top of the pile.

This is above and beyond the power of the NFL now. There are way too many powerful entities involved in their own investigations. Congress is even getting involved. Money and power go a long ways towards covering up damaging stories. But this is far beyond that now. Either Goodell is going to go down in flames or he is going to make sure someone below him burns.

Dont know if you guys saw but sportscenter showed footage of before rice and his wife got on the elevator. Rice spit on her as she walked past him and they were waiting for the elevator. Reacting she turned her head and kind of threw her arm back trying to hit him and missed. Then when they got on the elevator, he spit on her again, hit her, she retaliated and got knocked out. When he dragged her off he lied and said she was drunk but security already alerted police and he knew he was getting arrested.

This.

I assume someone will take the fall if anyone can prove the league had the tape. It wont be Roger

Ahh. You are blissfully unaware of the mob mentality that runs the country. When we want blood - we shall have it. And Goodell was living on shaky ground pubic opinion wise before this.

I say he doesn't survive it. Hard to believe, but I say he is going down. All they need is delivery confirmation of that tape and it is over for him, regardless of the fact that person that received it is now serving drinks and living in a hut in Fiji.

Goodell works for the owners and the owners are making money, so he's doing his job. What I don't get, is the new domestic violence rule dictates a 6 week ban. Why is Rice thrown under the bus with an indefinite ban? I'm not championing his cause based on the severity of the offence, but the indefinite ban doesn't make sense according to the rules.
