Cowboys Roar Back

So it's down to the last Lions possession. Game on the line. Spencer beats the tackle, sack fumble, the Rookie Demarcus Lawrence picks it up and WHAATTTTT! GET DOWN KID. NOOOooooooooo, what are you doin. OHHHHHHHH MY GOD!. THE GAME WAS OVER! I DON'T believe it. Hands on my head, pacing the living room in disbelief, repeating "the game was over, all he had to do was get DOWN" over and over again. I'm sick........I'm frazzled. Not sure how I'm going to survive the emotional cocktail of elation, rage, and disgust drilling a whole so infuriation and defeat could find it's way in to create an explosion of pissitivity that would surely have cripple me. Now to provide some perspective here. You have to understand the Cowboys fan's psyche. How many times has Romo drove us down the field making huge plays to have us up late only to watch the defense give up a last minute drive to crush us. Remember it was just last year that Stafford drove the field and scored on a fake spike. Demarcus Lawrence, in the span of a minute, went from goat to hero. I must say, for a rookie to make that kind of mistake, yet find a way to redeem himself with the trifecta Sack, fumble, recovery, to win the game, is fairy tail stuff! Are you kidding me. His first sack of the year ends up being a game winner in a playoff game, after making a blunder of play that could have haunted him like Romo's mishandled snap for the rest of his career. Unreal.

Man o man what a game. This game had it all. I've been sayin it and sayin it. This Cowboys team is different. This Cowboys team knows how to fight. This Cowboys team knows how to win. But before I tell you how I feel better about going to Green Bay then I did about hosting the Lions, let me break down the Cowboys first playoff win in 5 years.

The Lions came to play. I have not seen this Cowboys O line get man handled like they did in the first half like they did yesterday. It was if they had never played together letting free runners up the middle around the side and pounding Romo. I was shocked. When the Lions went up 14 I was seriously worried. Then it happened. Romo hits TW on the in route for a 76 yard stunner.

But before that, there was a play that many may not remember but was perhaps the play that kept the Cowboys in it. In the second Quarter with 9 minutes left the Lions were looking to get the ball back and put the Cowboys defense back on the field after playing almost the entire first half, Romo on third down makes a play to Witten for 12 yards that was tipped at the LOS. Gave the D a rest and allowed for them to regroup after losing Rolando McClain for the rest of the game with a concussion. The D stops Det which led to TW's touchdown.

How the Cowboys won this game.

It was as if like a Navy ship in a storm. The captain yells out, "Batten down the hatches!" and the crew do exactly that. It began with the Cowboys D line. The Lions running game was shut down like the turning of a hatch screw. When the Lions needed to lean on their running game to preserve the lead and bleed the clock, the Cowboys held them to 21 total yards rushing for the second half.

Then there was Carr, locked up on Megatron the whole game, tightened the batten screw on Johnson who was held to 2 catches the second half.

As they continued to turn and tighten the screws, Scandrick took Tate out of the game too, who had 2 catches for 23 yards for the 2nd half.

The lions second half possessions:

Interception

Field Goal

Punt

Punt

Fumble

Fumble

For a defense that was suppose to be "Horrible", "worst in the league", showed up Sunday and shut the Lions offense down. With a rookie Hitchens playing MLB with a bad wheel.

The O line, began to wear down this Lions defense. They too began to turn the hatch screws and as they did, those holes the free runners at Romo were squeezed shut. While at the same time, the middle of the line began move those mountains in the middle and allowed Murray to run to daylight.

Then there was El Matador, Tony Romo. Played like a warrior. Perhaps his greatest victory to date. Took hit after hit, endured jail break after jail break in the first half. Made some big time throws under duress and most importantly, put the ball in places that only his receiver had a chance to make plays on. There were times he could have fit the ball into receivers but chose to keep it low and on target keeping the Lions from having any chance at a turnover and adding points. He may have played his most perfect game of his career while confirming the stats that he is the best 4th QB signal caller in the land.

Now I have to admit, my pisstivity level was beyond pegged when they threw the ball on 3rd and 1, getting Romo sacked which led to Bailey missing that FG after the interception to start the 3rd Quarter. As I watched Murray walk off the field upset he was being taken off, I just could not believe it. I couldn't understand why they would take him off the field removing the run threat and broadcasting to the Lions we plan to pass so come after us which they did. Resulting in a sack. I was livid. I wanted to hurt the play caller. Seriously.

Now the play that everyone is up in arms about. Hitchens, covering the Lions TE, gets called for PI yet the officials pick up the flag. All I can say, and I will quote Garrett, "it's a shame that it's what everyone is talking about". That play, although big at the time, hardly was the deciding factor in the game. This game was won by the Cowboys defense and the plays of Romo, Witten, Beasley, TW and Dez. I must admit I was shocked by the call but IMO, Hitch had the play covered and the TE had no chance of making the play where the ball was thrown period. Glad they picked it up, but that play hardly decided this game. I believe games should be decided on plays made or not made. Not refs. Bottom line, you should lose if you only score 3 points in a half period. Detroit had plenty of chances to make plays and negate that call having any impact on the game.

Now it's on to Green Bay. Honestly, I feel better about this game then I did this one. Green Bay doesn't have the defense the Lions have. We can score point on GB. This should be a great game.

What are you out of your mind?

Funny thing is though that the refs fixed the game to help the public side win.... it just goes to show you that TV Ratings mean more than what the Sportsbooks want/ need.

Detroit also should have played better defense toward the end of the 1st half. Poor tackling led to Dallas getting that first half TD.

Its funny Lions were only up 10 points at half but they totally dominated that 1st half. It really felt like it should have been a 28 point lead the way Dallas was getting blasted.

business is business. i ain't hatin', just feeling bad for fans. this is for entertainment purposes only. well that's what they write on those weekly cards

no doubt it was done to help Dallas. Guys posting well Detroit still had ball at end, or like Lb so stated earlier well where has that Star been last decade if Nfl needs it so bad. Dumb asses lol! Not like league can have absolute control on outcomes but certainly can influence it at times. And Dallas has sucked past decade and were not that relevant. Now that they are there is no doubt which side league was gonna bend for here ov a Detroit brand that has almost zero value for business.

Let's not forget the no call when Dez
ran onto the field without his helmet on
disputing the flag for pass interference right after the play. It's clear as day and should have been a 15 yard penalty. I'm more shocked at that no call than i am of the picking up the flag.

Congrats Cowboyz1, nice of you to at least mention the play (horrible officiating) that everybody would be talking about. Reading the 3000 word essay I almost dozed off and was wondering if you'd even talk about it. (At least you're not like some Cowboys fans claming there was no penalty and it was the right call.)

Yes the Lions had other chances to win, and played poorly in the second half overall. But that gift surely played a big role in the game. Lions thought they had a first down, then suddenly they're faced with 4th and 1 with the clock running. I think that played a roll in them punting instead of going for it.
