I haven't seen this mentioned on the board yet. Here is Josh Gordon's take on Josh Gordon. Enjoy.

https://medium.com/t...-co-cb5c4e64cf3

I started to read it, but then it started coming off as a "sorry, not sorry" statement and I stopped. Also, your calling out people in the media for doing the usual hyperbole that media people do? Really?

I mentioned it it post #28 of this thread.

You mean like a month ago when the story broke? ;)

I read it back then and it was stupid nonsense. Josh told us earlier this year that he understands why people don't believe his words, because his actions keep showing he hasn't changed. So back in January as soon as the Browns season was over he decides that means the NFL season is officially over and its ok to start drinking again. (Umm quick question guys, when do you think the NFL season is officially over? Anybody think it is before the Super Bowl is played.)

Josh may not have an addiction to drugs or alcohol, that part may be true. He does have a problem following rules and owning up to his mistakes. He is a prime example of entitled athlete/celebrity syndrome, which has as a primary symptom being a massive richard cranium (no that's not a huddle filter or huddlism, just a line I remember one of my brothers using that I like).

The fact that he doesn't want to accept the criticism and needs to write an open letter to Barkley and others calling him out shows he is headed for more trouble, because it proves he cannot accept his part in all his problems. Never his fault (doctor prescribed codeine, second hand smoke, not sure what excuse for DUI, didn't know I still couldn't drink,.....). At least JF has accepted he has a problem (or is pretending) and is seeking help. Josh is forever the victim in his own life.

Dude, did you even read what he wrote or did you just scan it and presume to know what it said?

He never passed the buck. He owned the mistakes. He was calling out these talking heads who act like they know who he is and what his problems are, and they had it coming. Barkley saying he could end up dead. Carter drawing paralells to his early career cocaine problems. That honda was nonsensical and Gordon had every right to fire that response off.

I thought it was pretty well articulated and on point. But haters are gonna hate.

I kinda go with this... the media gets its platform and can say whatever the heck they want. Why can't a player respond? Maybe some of it is bs but half the crap the media spews is bs too so whatever.

Two things, Second hand smoke is B.S. You leave the room period. If I knew I could lose my job and money by having drugs in my system, I walk away. The fact that he can't do that shows he is either stupid or has a problem with being able to do the right thing. Secondly, when I read, "I decided to get on a plane to go to Vegas" told me all I needed to read. There are only three things to do in vegas. Gamble and drink, watch strippers and Drink, and............well anything else and Drink. The fact that it surprised him to get a call from the league ordering him to go straight to a test upon landing in VEGAS tells me he's too stupid to play football at this level. I mean come on. That's like saying I plan to go to Woodstock and wonder if it may trigger a test for Josh Gordon. Come on dude.

I was in the Air Force and they say that drug testing is random. I was in for almost 2 1/2 years and had not been tested. I went on leave to Amsterdam and was shocked to see "the Menus" in the pubs. I knew at that moment I was going to be tested when I got back. Sure as $hit, no sooner then I got back to work on Monday I was "Randomly" selected to have a drug test. I just laughed and took the test knowing I was clean as a whistle. If he hasn't figured out that Random testing is not so random then he is an idiot. At 23 with his history, he should know by now they are going to try and catch you. He's had a choice to make. Either make millions and be the elite WR in the NFL for years to come or drink and smoke pot. Obviously we know what decision he has made so far and regardless of his "Story" it's a decision that he continues to make poorly. So I don't have to "know you" or shake your hand or say two words to you to know you're stupid to have not learned to make better choices given what's at stake and to expect anyone to "Trust" you or rely on you in the future is further proof that you just don't get it. There are over 2000 NFL players in the league that get it and have similar stories or worse that don't get suspended for failing tests. That fact that you have failed four times now proves you're a bonehead.

Yes you are young and dumb but to be that way after so many chances is no excuse. Wake up kid.

By the way, you're off my draft board forever.

Dude, I said I read it, or at least a good part of the opening 1000 words. He keeps owning up to his mistakes, promising to be more careful then making more mistakes. He told the Browns all the trouble was behind him, then the codiene, then the pot, then the DUI......

Trust me, I'm no lover of the media and know how they like to turn the smallest thing into a huge story. But this isn't just the media, its a player who keep screwing up, promising to change, then not changing. He claims to have overcome his relationship with Josh Gordon, but apparently not his Josh Gordon smoking friends.

Then he starts with his story, you need to know this so you understand why he does what he does. BS, millions have a rough upbringing, and many learn to leave the drugs and their friends associated with that behavior behind.

I get that this was meant as a counter attack against Charles, Smith, Carter and others, but he made it an open letter to the public. And to those who have followed him, it just sounds like a lot of BS. Who in his circle of friends and confidants thought this was a good idea?

I don't often agree with Cowboyz1, but he hit a homerun with his post, agree 100%.

I love when pro sports players respond to the media. Sure the mature thing is to ignore it and do your talking on the field but not everybody is conditioned to take the scrutiny and magnifying glass they get put under. He's young and I hope his bad decisions dont ruin his career. I think it's really easy to say if I was getting paid millions, I'd be an outstanding citizen. I've done stupid things with middle class money and I'm pretty sure I'd still be learning to not make mistakes if I was in the 7 figures.

Lots of people with rocks ready to throw stones at your glass house here.

If by this you are saying you would have a hard time deciding between drinking and pot or NFL and millions...I feel sorry for you.

I could stop drinking beer today and not worry one bit about it. I won't, because I am not being offered millions to stop, but if you have a hard time deciding between the two, you need help.

Exactly. If I were one of his friends I would go with him to pick up his check and make a copy of it. I would then tell him to keep it with him at all times. Whenever he thinks about drinking, smoking pot or even around people doing it, take out that check and burn it because that is exactly what you're about to do.

Again...he's not defending his mistakes in that letter. It's just him laying out the events with some context of his experience, accepting the situation for what it is, and calling out some media hacks.

He's not asking for pity or another chance. He's not blaming anyone other than himself for his mistakes.

It's pretty funny (and sad) that people are so ready to burn the guy at the stake, that they can't even read something without applying a bunch of their own opions and preconceived notions to it, and completely missing the point.

People are just going to hear what they want to hear no matter what is actually said. So light those torches and sharpen those pitchforks, we've got some chastising to do!

Dude drank a beer on a plane on the way to Vegas....and all of you are making out to be a criminal. Making millions is not that important to me, being happy is.

An oversimplification, don't you think? As part of his punishment for a DUI, he was prohibited from drinking. Might be a good idea to know exactly when that prohibition ends.

Yeah, I know guys that make what would be considered below middle class income that arent allowed to drink because of probation, so they don't drink. Its pretty simple really, if you're on probation..don't drink

He isn't just calling out the media hacks, he's calling out anybody who has ever criticized him. Including fans who wonder WTF is going on, why he cannot simply stop making stupid decisions.

He closes with

"If you see me someday, Chuck, Stephen A., Cris, or any other well-intentioned person to whom this letter is directed, please come on over, shake my hand, and say hello. I won’t be holding a grudge, but I will expect you to admit you were wrong about me."

Why should I admit I was wrong? He has a problem, it may be addiction to drugs and or alcohol, or it may simply be stupidity. How is that wrong?

What amazes me more is people like you, who read his BS and take it at face value. You believe he isn't making excuses or blaming others. That he is owning up to his problems and admitting he screwed up. To me I've heard that tune too long, from too many including Gordon. I don't want him to fail, I don't wish evil on him. I just want him to stop making bad decisions, or stop flapping your gums about it. Talk is cheap, show us through your actions.

Addiction and bad decisions are not one in the same , so it appears Gordon finds it insulting when TV heads and company jump to unfounded conclusions. I doubt you would appreciate it if folks confused your senility with your ignorance.
