Either way, theres no way in hell I'd hand my employer my phone. I don't blame him for that. And no one knows what was on his phone...maybe it was naked pics of his wife. Or someone elses wife..

They were great pics too!

Brady is a HOF'er. But I do think this will keep him from making it on the first ballot. Other than that, it's just a retort for us fans to use against arrogant Pats fans when they brag about having four Super Bowls. It doesn't tarnish his legacy other than conversations about who is the greatest, because you'll hear, "Well Montana didn't have to cheat." He still has the rings. The only "punishment" is that voters will make him wait an extra year.

Brady is a great QB. Not a "system" QB.

But forever in debt to mo lewis, you are a blind ass homer if you don't think he deflated footballs and covered it up. I love ya, but c'mon.

I've been running some of the scenarios in which I would not only refuse to hand over my phone, but destroy it. The only thing that keeps popping into my head is cheating. Pure speculation here, but maybe there is more to the story than we realize. Why on earth would you DESTROY a phone?

Why would he destroy it in March right around the time he was to meet with him and weeks after they had told him what they wanted? And then not mention it until June? He could have said back in March that he just destroyed it but waiting this long apparently means they cannot go back to reproduce the texts. Why wait four months to admit you destroyed the phone?

i just dont believe the nfl...call it homerism....but i dont trust everything i hear on the news or our govt tells us either....

the wells report had many holes that were pointed out by unbiased 3rd party sources...when that happened ted wells hired a firm to "validate" his report...he hired a firm which was once hired by the tobacco industry to prove that cigarettes werent harmful.....that should tell you enough.......the nfl botched this whole thing very badly...and theyre track record over the past few years suggests that they are capable of doing just that......its just theres a certain amount of people who want this all to be true and to stick.....if you look beneath the surface youll see how incredibly stupid the nfl is here

Great QB, HoFer no doubt. The deflating balls was entirely unnecessary. Maybe it's the culture of cheating in NE that caused. take every advantage you can, shave every corner till your caught.

It will tarnish him somewhat but undeniably he is one of the best to ever play. It may even delay his entry to the HoF but I kind of doubt it. I personally don't even see the deflation as giving all that much of an edge, not compared to juicing or stealing other teams hand signals.

I've never cared about the Patriots slightly deflating their footballs. If it gave him a little bit of a competitive advantage, then good for him. I don't consider it cheating even in the slightest. And I've just been laughing at everyone that has gotten themselves worked up over something so incredibly insignificant.

He is one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. This PR-generated suspension does nothing to change that in my opinion.

To me Tom Brady is one of the greatest of all time, certainly in the top 5. However, I also think that he plays for one of the most shady organization in all of sports. The Patriots have done everything they can to gain competitive edge, even things that bend or break the NFLs rules. Some people will call them smart, I call it unsporting. If you wanna watch guys being smart, then watch a spelling B. I want to watch a sporting event.

I believe that folks watching him play today, regardless of how they feel about him, will consider him a HoF QB even after the scandals. And furthermore in 30 years when NFL Films releases "Tom Brady: The Golden Football God" future generations will call him the greatest ever. Even though the rings don't tell the WHOLE story, its hard to argue with 4 rings in 6 appearances when your greatest nemesis went 1/3 and nobody else was even close. His legacy is better than ever.

Why would the NFL do this to their flagship team and star quarterback?

because they leaked info before an investigation that wasnt true.....and they cant go back on it now....they have to ride this thing out or else they look incompetent...which they have already proven to be......like i said...when its over and goodell will be up there acting like they did their best "but he got off on a technicality".....he cant admit this thing was botched

Let me preface this by saying I always pull for NE to lose.

I find it very hard to swallow that a 4 game suspension is handed down because it is likely that he was generally aware that the balls were being deflated. That sounds pretty damn flimsy to me. Punishment should be based on hard evidence not conjecture. The NFL is pissed that Brady didn't cooperate like they wanted him to and is being vindictive in the administration of punishment.

I also suspect that the PSI of the balls was largely something nobody cared about until the blow up last year. I suspect that quite a few QBs/teams were inflating/deflating their balls to their own desires, regardless of the rules. Now the NFL is making an example of Brady/NE. Personally I think the NFL should let the teams inflate/deflate their balls however they choose ... both teams have the option to prepare their own balls. What is the big deal?

I also think that the NFL is letting past events color their reaction to this specific event.

How is that Hardy beats his girlfriend and gets the SAME penalty has Brady who may or may not have been involved in deflating balls? That sounds absolutely ludicrous to me. And Bell has a drug conviction and only gets 2 games. Something is out of whack.

So on the one hand I am glad that NE will not have the services of Tom Brady (including during week 5 when they play the Cowboys) but on the other hand I despise the way the NFL handled this case. If we had been talking about the QB of my home team (Romo) instead of Brady I would definitely be upset with the punishment.

well first thing man....if i were you.....and let me say this...i actually like the cowboys...dez is my fave non patriot player and i watch them alot...their kinda like my "nfc team" but i dont actually root for them really.......if i were you id want brady playing so you can see where you measure up....that would be me though but its cool

i appreciate your honesty on the subject......but i have an issue with one part of your statement

"If we had been talking about the QB of my home team (Romo) instead of Brady I would definitely be upset with the punishment."

you should be upset with it anyway.....the league has proven its incompetence quite a few times here....and we should demand better....not say "well its not my team ...dont really care".....this whole thing is an absolute joke and a disgrace to the league.....goodell has no choice but to ride this out ...his only option is to admit they screwed this up and that would be the end of him......like i said ....when its over hell be saying "we operate with the utmost integrity and did what we thought was right based on our findings...but he got off on a technicality"...just to save face.....you should demand more of this league.....this guy is running it into the ground

ive been an nfl for a large portion of my life...i love this game....and i used to think mark cuban was crazy a few years ago when he said this league was going to ruin itself...i laughed...i said its too big....too popular....its great "no way"....im starting to think that guy is even smarter than i thought he was

when thinking about this whole situation...i hope we all remember the ray rice situation...it wasnt that long ago

this is the same league that said with a straight face "we had no idea there a casinos had video cameras. we have former fbi officials working in our security department. we had no reason to believe a casino would feature a video camera"

the nfl...a brand you can trust

but hey...as long as were not talking about lack of medical insurance for veterans, concussions or domestic violence....right?!

First I voted for the third option, he is good to great, possibly one of the best ever (though there was that system year with Cassell then him falling flat in KC). I may have voted for the first one if it also included "but he's a cheater" because I believe he did.

For those that see nothing wrong with this, or think it is ok because "everybody else does it"

1) if you really think many other teams were tampering with the balls AFTER THE REF INSPECTED THEM you're basing that on what, all the QBs who say they asked for the balls to be tampered with after inspection? Funny I never heard those comments

2) even if everybody is doing it, its still wrong and cheapens the game

And for the "the Pats are crafy and I love that they stretch the rules to gain every advantage  , gaming the system is wrong, no matter how well you do or if you are ever caught.

Here is an analogy I think that sums up my thoughts - Everybody is driving 70 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, everybody is doing it and nobody cares (including the authorities). Then, for some unknown reason, a cop chooses to pull over just ONE of the many motorists exceeding the speed limit. And instead of just giving him a speeding ticket he hauls him to jail where he is sentenced to 30 days behind bars.

Was it the cop's right to pull over that one motorist, certainly.

Was that one motorist breaking the law, you bet.

But that doesn't change my thoughts that the unequal application of an existing regulation is wrong.

I can say this with a certain amount of certainty. If Goodell did not have a healthy support from a majority of ownership, the suspension more than likely would have been reduced or erased all together. Unfortunately, the Patriots don't have a spotless record when it comes to rule violations. They push the limits on a constant basis, very often over stepping those limits. Add in Brady's very poor decision (for whatever reason) to destroy potential exonerating evidence and the league had no choice but to go full bore ahead.

And to all the Patriot fans and others that are calling for Goodells head, sorry but that's not gonna happen.
