Apparently he was playing much better in camp but then they're gonna say that now that he's out for most of the year.

Read somewhere that Geno's jaw is broken in two places.

They cut the guy who punched him. He was a second year sixth rounder.

Quickest way to lose your job ... sucker punch the starting QB breaking his jaw and putting him on the sideline for 6 to 10 weeks.

Well not exactly..........He may be the hero of the locker room. Moving him out of the way so that a real QB could lead the team. Geno seems to be the character risk here. Pay the guy, apologize for missing the camp that probably showed negatively on the poor guy who people expected to see Geno Smith the starting QB for the NY Jets. He could have taken an opportunity to show true leadership. Instead he chose to show how much he's not ready to lead men to anything but into petty fights.

:hscratch:

What are you saying? Are you saying Geno missed the chance to be a leader? But instead got punched out?

Breaking the starting QB's jaw in the locker room will never equate to being a hero, screams to me that somebody is not a team player.

Yeah, I guess I am. Take a step back and think about it. Your starting QB was invited to a camp by a fellow linebacker teammate. Obviously Geno Smith is one of the biggest names on the team so anyone attending that camp was expecting to see Geno Smith. Your teammate has put his rep on the line telling the attendees his starting QB and teammate will be there. He's not.

So the starting QB has a choice to make. Similar to choices he has to make on the field to motivate and rally the support of his teammates. He could apologize to his teammate, give him a check to reimburse him for the cost of the ticket and think of something to make it up to the guy for tarnishing his rep by being a no show. Shows his team that they matter and he just didn't blow the guy off regardless of the reason.

OR

Stall the guy out over $600 and allow a guy that you know is already volatile to get frustrated because he feels he paid Geno to make him look like a fool thinking he would show in the first place. Geno throws the first punch choosing to fight his teammate because he can't figure another way out of the situation.

So yeah, if Geno Smith can't make a decision over $600 with a teammate. It explains why he has difficulty making good decisions on the field. It also shows he doesn't have the leadership required for the position if he can't lead his own linebacker to a decision that doesn't involve a broken jaw.

Being a leader of a team requires you to understand your teammates and lead them to good decisions. It requires a measure of responsibility. Now if he can play with a broken jaw then fine, throw on the guy. If you can't, you had better come up with a solution that allows your teammate to move on and you to play QB.

Of course the linebacker has responsibility here but I'm pointing out just how badly Geno managed the situation as the key decision maker on your team.

Everything I read said Geno Smith was cold cocked or sucker punched ... that means he didn't "throw on the guy". What it means is that he was standing there and was unexpectedly punched ... If you throw the first punch you are never unexpectedly punched back.

On the face of it sure sounds like Smith weaseled out of an obligation to a team mate. For all we know there may have been extenuating circumstances. Regardless of what may or may not occurred there is no justification for cold-cocking/sucker punching a team mate, period.

In any case, I have my doubts as to whether or not Smith was going to ever lead this team or any team.

I read that Geno threw first but he was sucker punched later in the episode. I was wrong you are right it was a sucker punch. He walked up and punched him. So I do understand Ik was a fault for the way it ended.

I get what you're saying and I agree with you. I'm just pointing out how peeling off $600 bills at minimum would have quashed the entire situation and to not be able to see that choice or any choice that spares blows is a ridiculous and telling decision made by your starting QB. With so many options available to him I find ending up with a broken jaw an alarming outcome and explains some of the decisions he makes on the field.

I heard a report that his teammates didn't come to his aid either. That is even more alarming. It's shows the guys in the locker room didn't give a rats ass their starting QB got sucker punched. Any other time you'd think the team would jump the guy and waste him for sucker punching their QB wouldn't you think? http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/meet--ik--enemkpali--the-former-jet-who-broke-geno-smith-s-jaw-205318494.html
