QBs, coaches want longer QB skirts

[whine] Don't hit my fragile QB at the knees when he is running the play option ... he should have the same protection as a potential runner as he does as a passer [/whine]

If you don't want your QB treated/hit like a RB then don't have him run the ball and don't have him run plays where one of the options is for him to run the ball.

I think the point they were making was that they play in question was not a true "read option"...it was a basically a straight hand-off from the shot-gun formation.

Is any quarterback that hands off from the shotgun formation at risk of being hit in the knees? If so, we are going to see a lot less draw plays called.

I suspect that they have seen Chip Kelly's QB run the ball from that formation, thus they considered it a play option. Either way it was clear he was not intending to pass the ball which makes him fair game.
