Rob Gronkowski: how high to draft?

Well he just went # 1 to my shock in a very competitive BOTH league I play in granted TE gets a lot more value for receptions than others and then low and behold Julio went second to just drive bell and AP down the ladder... And AP went at 5 to the owner who has won the last 3 years... F@ck me... You just never know year to year what will happen but never saw that coming.

He went 3rd in our huddle message board draft. If you want him and that's the draft slot you're locked in to, that's where you have to take him.

wait, standard scoring? wait on another TE

I was a bit surprised by that as it's not exactly double points that TEs get for receptions (the get 1 PPR, WRs get 0.75 and RB gets 0.5), and was also a bit surprised with Jones at #2.. it allowed me to get Charles at 6. Of course, if you are confident enough in your projections and feel that either is the guy to go for, then you make the move there as neither makes it out of the 1st. Of course, this league only requires 1 RB (has 2 flex spots), so one can make up for not going RB in the 1st (or even the 1st and 2nd) if they hit on two good players there and still get a serviceable RB in the 3rd (as we are in the 3rd currently, I don't want to say any names)

In the Huddle message board league, I was the one to take Gronk at #3. I did that because it is a best ball league, so I believe I can afford to pass on the higher rated RBs and WRs there as my best ones will automatically start each week, so I loaded up on more RBs and WRs in the 3rd-10th round, but I don't have to guess at which one to start each week. In a typical league where I'm picking a lineup each week, I'm not so sure I'm able to pull the trigger on Gronk there.

Actually it is 1/2 point PPR. I have Gronk ranked #4 on my board behind AP, Charles, Brown. But am considering going for the "No RB theory" and am considering Gronk. If I don't get him maybe I will get Graham at pick #25.

My strategy is to get a TE, QB, and 3 WR in the first 5 rounds. After that I will draft 6 to 8 RBs. I will draft no backup QB or backup TE so I want a stud at each position.

call me old school but that's the worse idea yet. You won't have 6-8 guys worth picking.

You're trying to exploit others by using a rare tier 1 TE, but being exploited yourself. DUCY?

Gronk is not the #2 overall player. Period. Especially with a backup QB for 4 weeks, and a guy who throws his body around like he's in the WWE. Scarcity is in the running back position, exposure is leaving that unaddressed.

Take AP. He's just as "sure thing" as Gronk.

It goes so much mmore meta than that too. Push/pull. Dictate the draft. These leaves you so weak, in some of leagues others will adapt and exploit this draft flaw to the fullest.

Draft 3TEs, draft 3 WR sleepers, just don't draft Gronk 2nd overall. My gawd.

I'm going to draft 8 mid-round running backs. I will then turn over my RB position every week on the waiver wire. I will hit 2 starting caliber RBs eventually.

At the #2 spot I'm deciding between Antonio Brown or Gronk. Too much risk of AP or Charles getting hurt, I'll get my RBs at the end of the draft.

Charles and AP have both basically had 1 bad injury and been completely healthy otherwise. Neither have missed more than 2 games in a season outside those injuries (not counting last year for AP of course).

I wouldn't even consider taking gronk till at least 6 (after the big 4 RBs and Brown are off the board). While you might hit on some mid round RBs, you might find yourself elliminated from playoff contention by the time you do with that strategy.

But as others have said, if you really really want gronk, take him. He's certainly a prime talent.

You should manage your team as you see fit - all I'll say is that you have to be quite good to make this work and it's usually a flop. I know Henry Muto has had success with a late RB strategy (per his mega-winning teams) but it's not a given, at all, that you will hit on 2 RBs.

Actually now that I'm thinking more about it I think I will take Antonio Brown at #2 then a second WR or Rodgers with round 2 and Jimmy Graham at #25 (round 3). I'm not dead set on anything, just seeing what everyone thinks of the zero RB theory. I've never done it before but I think it will work in my league as I can work the waiver wire.

And RB injuries happen every year, it's a guarantee.

I had the 5th pick and took gronk over lynch, brown, thomas, dez, the list goes on and on. I am extremely happy with my draft. Everyone else can fight to find decent TEs all year while baring injury I have that problem only during week 4 gronk bye week. I would take Gronk #1 overall had I picked #1. People call me crazy but I am defending champion for a reason, I know what im doing and I'm gonna play my game. I think gronk anywhere u can get him is a great idea. Take a bunch of rbs in the middle rds to make it up. Hit on one or 2 and ur good. Depth at wr is so good thing year u shouldn't have a problem with wrs. I took gronk, julio jones, ty hilton, jordan Matthews as my first 4 and then went after a flurry of young rbs with upside. Also took foster as insurance that I may be looking for a rb difference maker later in the year and he may be that guy.

I agree depth at wr is solid, that's why you SHOULDNT use 3 of your first 4 picks on the deepest position.. Confused with your post to say the least
