Multiple Leagues...

I have been reading a lot of posts about drafting the same players in different leagues etc...

How many leagues is too many? At some point you either have every player on all of your teams or are playing against every player. And what is the fun in that?

"yes, lynch just scored a td…but i'm playing against him in two other leagues…lame"

I am a huge fantasy football participant and nerd and have been playing since `99. Recently I have limited myself to two leagues. Not because of family (single no kids) or lack of interest or time but strictly because I don't want my fantasy football experience to be watered down by too many leagues.

The two leagues I am in are completely different:

1) local standard which has been going since early '90's.

2) keeper league since about '05.

Two completely different scoring and settings which TO ME keeps it interesting. I have read about people with 5+ teams and I just feel like that is a complete waste of time. Which league matters? It can't be all of them...

Obviously to each there own but what are your thoughts?

Well if all the leagues you play in have the same format, then ya it would get boring. There's a lot of different type of leagues out there though.

I went from about 4-5 leagues per year down to 2 leagues per year last season. Partially due to the scoring and formats being the same and partially because 2-3 of them had no money involved. I've been on the lookout for an additional league with a different format, but haven't quite found one yet. I am getting bored of standard scoring.

I understand that. But that doesn't change the fact that there are only so many players and at some point you have every player and play against every player. What do you end up cheering for? The biggest money league? The league with your friends for bragging rights?

I totally get the different types of leagues. And I am very interested in an auction draft league but for me personally, two is enough. Once again…to each their own.

With multiple leagues, it's all about the total points. I actually like having many leagues (12 last year) as I now watch the games (instead of individual player stats) and not worry about the points until all the Sunday games are over. Usually, there's a couple of players going for me on MNF, so I can root for these.

It does help to have different types of leagues and scoring, but when it's all said and done.....it's still about scoring the most points.

Thanks for the reply. My point is…if you have 12 leagues, I would guess that most of the players you have in each league are different from the next so when one scores FOR you in one league he is likely scoring AGAINST you in another league. Which do you cheer for? Having 12 teams that is pretty much a given.

I just don't understand how that is fun unless you are strictly playing fantasy football for gambling purposes and don't enjoy the "game" involved.

I am in five leagues. I have several players at each position in 2 or 3 leagues. 2 QBs, 5 RBs, 8 WRs, & 2 TEs.

When you identify players you like more than most, you tend to get them in multiple leagues. While there are some times I end up playing against some of them, ultimately, I root for those players and have good weeks when that group does well.

On game day I am watching the games, not the stat line.

On game day I never check starting lineups, so I do not know who my opponent is starting.

Once my lineups are set I don't worry about them or how I am doing until before the Sunday game.

So when Lynch scores a TD I do not know if one of my opponents started him or not.

Since I am not watching the stat lines I don't really know when my team is doing bad ... if one of my teams is doing great I might have an idea if my individual players are going off.

It goes back to watching the game itself for fun, not individual players. IMO, the game of football comes first and foremost before FF.

Will also mention that I will always cheer for the NFL teams I like and against others I don't before all else. Doesn't matter if I have Ivory or not, I always want to see the Dolphins win and the Jets get their faces rubbed in honda.

Yeah, feel the same way about the Broncos vs the Raiders.

I usually cap it at 5 leagues a season but this year I'm in 8 (got into 3 BoTH leagues this year). In each league the scoring differs for the most part. I focus on value not so much targeting names - if I end up with the same player on multiple teams then so be it.

I find it enjoying BECAUSE of this. Every time I get scored on, I can take solace that I scored somewhere else. It's removed me from watching MFL Gameday and instead I can just enjoy some football. Cheering is for your homer team and stat review is for Mondays.

I used to be in 8 or 9 leagues. I dropped down to 1 a few years ago and then added two more since. For me it is not having every combination of player it was managing the day to day operations of my teams that took too much time.

When I had more leagues I prioritized them. So my local which was my most expensive league came first. If anyone scored for me in that league I did not care if I was going against them in any other league.

I think you just do the amount of leagues that make it for yourself. Everyone is different.

Good luck this year.

Looks like I'm in the minority here. First and foremost my 25 year local is the most important league and always will be. I put my heart and soul into that league. That being said, I have 20 plus managed leagues on RTS strictly for making money and a bit of fun. I also have many many many more draft and leave leagues (like the huddle message board leagues), that all I have to do is watch. As for having guys playing for me and against me, I dont even give it a second thought. Hawks winning always comes first, then my local team ff players, then all the rest as the chips may fall.

What might sound crazy is I run 4 local leagues, 2 redraft, 2 dynasty and I play in a 16 team dyno Huddle league and those are the 5 I root for the most during most of the regular season especially at the beginning of the year despite those being my 5 lowest paying leagues if I win them. Those 5 leagues are more about pride and I find myself sweating them out the most on Monday nigh when in doubt. Next on the list is my 5 high stakes dynasty leagues. Then we have the remaining multiple leagues for high stakes I play in which I really just wait until Monday to see where I stand in each league and then root accordingly to get the most wins but the 4 local, 1 huddle and 5 other dynasty take precedence in the regular season. Now once we get to the playoffs if any of my high stakes leagues are in the running for a big prize or a National Championship then that would take precedence over the locals and dynasty leagues since those are once in a lifetime chances to win a big time contest.
