Defense on Waivers for 7 days?

Can someone help me understand the waivers. I have been runing a small 8 person league in Australia for the past couple of years. The majority of our league rules are simply left with the NFL Fantasy defaults, including waivers. I can't figure out why 2 team owners were able to pick up players from FA 1 hour prior to the waivers being processed and why one of the dropped players (defensive team) has now gone on to waiver for 7 days instead of the standard 2 days like everyone else. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? I have team owners asking me questions that I don't have the answers for.

Waivers are an auction block of sorts. It allows teams to put in competing claims on the same player. Different rules determine who wins those claims (waiver order, free agency budget, etc).

Usually all available players go on waivers at the conclusion of the game week (overnight Monday in US). Leagues process waiver bids Tuesday thru Thursday, depending on the setting, and then after they're processed the remaining unclaimed players are free agents -- able to be added instantly. When a player is dropped, he immediately goes back on waivers to allow teams to place those competing bids. If no one claims him he goes becomes FA again after some set period of time. A week is probably too long for casual players - we use 2 days in my league.

How many thump ruckmen does your league start :-)?

Thanks colkurtz, I get how the Waiver process works but I don't get why some players are on waivers for 2 days and some for 7 days. Wasn't sure if it was something the the NFL Fantasy site does automatically or if it was just a glitch. The week we have had the following players dropped;

Jordan Reed, Steve Smith Sr, Ryan Tannehill, Josh Brown, Lance Dunbar, Rishard Matthews and Sammy Watkins all on Waiver till the 9th October.

Alfred Blue and Colts Defense on Waiver til 14th October and

Gary Bainbridge (picked up on waivers and then dropped a couple of hours later due to a trade) has gone back to FA.

Not sure that anyone can answer this, it appears very random to me.

Also, what is a thump ruckman?

Blue and Colts play tomorrow night, which means they will play before they unlock, which will cause them to remain locked until next week.

If you want to make dropped players who play on Thursday available before their game, you have to set the waiver period to 1 day instead of 2.

I think that a player must be held for 24 hrs before they will lock when dropped. This to prevent owners from going and add/dropping every player to lock them and block an opponent.

BA nailed it again. We had to make some changes with our waivers when the NFL started playing every Thursday. I think we had them set to be on waivers for 1 day, but didn't have a waiver run before that TNF game (I think we only did them on Tue and Fri, no run every day that CBS allows).

The waivers also mean that players dropped after your last waiver run (ours is Sat AM) are locked out of being added that week. Can be a good strategy if you want to drop somebody but not have them available to others.
