Whats wrong with Houston's Def.

They have JJ Watt, Clowney, Cushing and a decent secondary but what gives. They seem to not be able to stop anyone. Watt is doing nothing. Clowney just gets blocked on every single down and has zero effect off the edge.

Is it effort? I just don't get why they are so bad.

Excluding Watt and maybe Jonathan Joseph they really aren't that good. Cushing is always hurt and its starting to show. The rest of the LBs are average at best. Clowney is looking like a bust and may never recover from the knee issue. Good scheme last year and the offense may actually be worse and it isn't helping the D any.

Yeah, when I heard Clowney having Micro fracture surgery, I figured he was done. That knee will never be 100% and he was all about speed and power off the edge. Without a good knee I can't see him being the same player without the power in his leg.

They could also use a decent QB like 40 year old Matt Hasselbeck. That last pass by Hoyer was maybe one of the worst I've ever seen a pro QB make.

Yeah, that one throw just makes you shake your head. Just throw it up for grabs with the game on the line. I don't even see that in high school games.

Clowney mailed in his final year at South Carolina because he was scared of getting hurt, things happen in the League and at least he got to sign his name on the dotted line before he ruined his knee....he probably won't be in the league for another 3 or 4 years, at least he can limp to the bank then!

Yeah that knee was damaged and he protected it until he got his dough. Now he's just another big body that will bust out of the league with millions. Can't blame the guy though. He's worked his entire life to play in the NFL and make money if he hadn't kept that knee a secret he would have been working for the rest of his life at some car wash. It's not like NFL teams are hurt financially where as it meant everything to him and his family.

Very good synopsis - not sure there's more to say than this.
