Deon Lewis - The perfect flex or weekly must start?

For the first time in a long time, there seems to be consistency in the NE Backfield. A coach notorious for driving fantasy owners insane with unpredictable RB committees seems to be in love with Deon, and for good reason. He is fast, elusive, catches the ball well, and even does well at the goal line.

The problem is that Blount is always lurking around. They seem to use Lewis when they want to pile up points, then switch to Blount once they have a comfortable lead.

He has been incredibly consistent:

Standard Scoring

Week 1- 12 pts

Week 2- 17 pts

Week 3- 12 pts

Week 5- 15 pts

However, while he consistently gets around 100 total yards from scrimmage, he has yet to break 100 yards rushing or receiving in any single game. So considering that, do you play him over guys like Lynch, Forsett, Ivory, etc - guys that could easily bust 150 yards and 1 or two tds every week?

Do you play the trends? The match ups?

I've been using him as a bye week/injury replacement, but it's REALLY HARD to ignore the consistant 10-15 pts per week this kid is getting.

So the question is, do you go with the guy that is almost assured to get you 12 points, or do you go with the guy that could get you 4-30 points. It's the classic safe play vs high risk/reward scenario.

It's an interesting and good problem to have, but it's driving me crazy.

I have him in a 12 team standard scoring league with a flex position so he is in my line up every week and I don't have to think about it. I play in a 10 team .5pt ppr league with no flex spot and he will be in my line up at RB until he no longer is worthy. This same league I traded Blount away for Moncrief so I wouldn't have to worry about who to play. Even though Lewis has solidified himself as the much more solid play anyways

PPR yes, 12 team league with so many injuries, he's a must start.

is he though? I play in a 12 team league (standard scoring), and I have Lynch, Ivory, and Forsett as well. Would you really feel comfortable benching any of these guys?

*This isn't asking for advice btw, I'm more interested in the discussion about high risk/reward vs consistency. Wanted to get that in before someone spanks me for using the wrong format.*

I would play him over Lacy at this point, no question.

Only own one share of him in my local, but there's not a doubt he's going to be used heavily until he breaks...even his fumbles don't keep him off field.

14 team league - he's a must start for me until further notice. Starting him over 2 AZ RB's and Sankey.

Guy in our league started Lewis beginning in week3, of course not for his bye wk4.

First 2 weeks he went with Bernard & Jennings, in week 2 Lewis scored 16 more points than Jennings, suspect that had him making the switch to Lewis. Of course Blount went off ro 26 on his bench that week, His only other RB not mentioned above is Taliaferro.

he's an absolute must start in PPR .... and I would imagine borderline starter in standard.

I also figure he continues to be a major contributor all season ...got the nice extension and

we all know how BB loves his reclamation projects

Yeah, he's in my line up right now, but I don't feel good about it because it means I have to bench:

1. A returning, healthy Beast Mode with a chip on his shoulder facing a terrible run Defense.

2. Forsett who has 300 yards and a TD in the last two games.

3 Chris Ivory coming off a bye week and a 160 yard, TD performance.

Dion is a very good 3rd down scat back, but they use him just enough in the Red Zone to keep him more valuable than the average 3rd down back. He hasn't had any more than 8 carries since Blount came back. You can't argue with his amazing efficiency, but it makes me nervous plugging him in over someone that's gonna get 20 carries.

Forsett might not play so could be decision made. But I'd find a way to start him against the Colts for sure.

If ever there was a "run up the score" game it will be Pats vs Colts.

Gotta start him this weekend. Not sure who's gonna get the major points but it will be one of Gronk, Edelman, or Lewis.

Blount could just as easily get 3 goal line TDs just like he did in Jax. And that is the downside of Lewis.

Perhaps but even in that game Lewis put up above average PPR points (17.7 in 1pt ppr)

Because of his involvement in the passing game he has a really nice floor.

I was flexing him on based on matchup in my 10-team half-PPR league for a couple games. But with his floor and the dominance of my roster in general he's pretty much landed the job permanently as I'd rather his high floor than going for the high ceiling of some of my other benchers like Amari Cooper or Allen Robinson. For the record my RBs are Bell and Freeman (it's lovely).
