More NFL Dumbassery

I thought you were referring to Jay Ratliff getting into a verbal altercation with Ryan Pace and being escorted out of Lake Forest, with the local police being called to ensure he didn't come back on the premises. Escorted out, cut, replaced by Hood.

Can't wait to find out what happened here.

Just saw an add for the London game (during the Thursday game), that it is on CBS at 9:30?

Looked on my xfinity cable schedule and its not there...so I guess it is just internet?

That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen or heard when it comes to the NFL. Why on earth would they do this? Laggy poo poo coming our way. I guess I'll try and view it on the tv through the computer or try the Yahoo app on the smart tv. Just stupid....

So dumb...I personally don't mind one game a year played there, but several on top of the lack of coverage is garbage. How can they possibly not be affected by viewership and TV revenue? I get that Yahoo! is probably paying them something, but damn...

Agreed this is stupid. I thought it would be on CBS like the Dolphins VS Jets in London a couple weeks ago. I have to say I didn't mind having a game to watch at 8:30am central. Plus I will be in New Orleans on Sunday so I figured I'd be drinking anyways why not catch the early morning game LOL

I refuse to watch the London games. The NFL likes to talk a big game about player safety but when you dangle a dollar in front of them player safety is the last thing they think about. Thursday night games and London games fit this bill exactly ... not great for player health and safety but great money makers for the NFL.

It is the Jags and the Bills, why would anyone really want to watch? What's the big deal if you cannot?

A few things.

- all London games this year are being played at 9:30AM, this is the second one and the last will be next week, this allows for better live game time and attendance by fans, less headaches for them trying to get home after the game (a live game for our Sunday afternoon slots means finishing later at night and the public transit (heavily used in Europe compared to the US) isn't running much

- the NFL wants to see how things go with a game done only via online streaming (BUF and JAX markets get it on their CBS who is producing the game), having the whole country (world) trying to watch that way will show the ability to handle it, the quality, fan reaction etc.

- so they picked a game in London, between two at best mediocre teams and figure if fans will watch that, and the streaming goes well maybe they'll consider doing more of this

- yes it is free on Yahoo

- I doubt anything changes short term to remove games from broadcast TV and move them to streaming, the networks have contracts. But it could be a new way to view games live, streaming and yes that would probably be for a fee. (I thought NFL.com already had something like that, NFL Game Rewind or something on their site.)

Now my personal take, I hate the London games to start with, because the local fans (season ticket holders and others who want to see their team play at home) are screwed. Also because the talk about a franchise long term in London. But these early morning games are a nice alternative, it makes a game available for people to watch that is otherwise buried in Sunday afternoon regional coverage. Unless you're local or have ST you wouldn't see it any.

If I'm home I'll try to watch, I'll probably start off just with the tablet (laptop probably too old/slow to handle streaming) and may connect it via HDMI to the 60" plasma TV. I wonder about the lag, and I'm also a big user of my DVR, so having to watch at their time, live, with commercials is not my preferred method. But I'll be curious to see how it works, and if its something I will enjou. But I may not even be home much to check it out.

Curious how you think the London game affects player safety? I agree that playing on Thursday has that issue, far less rest and preparation time since the last game. Is there really that much less practice and prep time for a game in London? I thought most teams fly over early in the week (on their normal off day) and practice there.

As I said I hate the London games and the idea of a team in London for many reasons. But player safety was not one I even considered.

Because I have Lesean McCoy and Allen Hurns. I like to watch my guys

Fair enough, I try to watch games with my players but usually just watch whatever games I get locally (no ST or RZ). I presume you have Sunday Ticket and so if it was Sunday afternoon game you'd have access to it on TV and could watch it.

As I said in my long post, it's an experiment, entertainment landscape is changing, I'm still a pay TV person but more and more are looking to cut the cord, and if you've got a product with appeal like the NFL you need to pay attention to that and see how it might work for you.

What might be interesting to hear about is what sports bars will do, and what have they done for other early morning London games? In this case they'd need to figure out how to get their streaming game on their TVs, not difficult but they're probably not set up for it. Were they open and showing the last London morning game, did people go. This one might be different because more fans might be interested and prefer a bar with a bunch of big screens to watching at home on laptop/tablet/device or figuring out how to get it on the TV.

If you build it, they will come (especially if alcohol is involved - the only thing that might get in the way are state/local laws regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sunday morning)... :)

In Ohio believe hard liqour is the only thing not available all the time, I think they have to wait to sell until 11AM/12PM, been a long time since I was in a bar at that time of day, especially on a Sunday. But do recall going to one before a Browns game, guy knew bartender and they poured us shots, we slammed them and the glasses were quickly scooped up.

If this was on at 1pm would anyone watch it?

Unless you live in BUF or JAX markets, or have Sunday Ticket you wouldn't be able to anyway, And there'd be better games on. Some would watch to see fantasy players, or they'd get to see bits and pieces on Red Zone if they watch that.

Like I said its an extra game that you CAN watch where if it were on Sunday afternoon most couldn't watch (without ST of going to a bar).

as said before, YES!

I like to watch my players. And a 9:30 AM start doesn't have much interference going on around me.

Charles Clay, Bortles, McCoy, Bills D, Allen Robinson, Hurns, Julius Thomas...I like watching my guys play
