Rob Ryan losing his shot..

Saints fired Rob Ryan today - ending his shot as DC in New Orleans. I think all the 'Ryans' are overrated as coaches, but not much blame to put on Ryan when you have no playmakers on defense..

I'll have to disagree with you there. Players have been undisciplined, unprepared and outschemed. That's coaching.

I think he had to go as badly as the Saints have played and they almost got rid of him last year. They brought in Dennis Allen as his replacement last February and made Ryan work with him. Ryan had no chance this year - the quality of defensive players is abysmal and no amount of coaching can fabricate talent that is not there.

I agree with you on the boys, but Buddy was the real deal. Super Bowl win with the Jets, 3 Super Bowl appearances with the Vikings, Super Bowl win with the Bears, turned Philadelphia around...I love defense, and he was about as good as there has ever been on that side of the ball.

Rajn - this once proud franchise is going the way of the Titanic. An aging QB who has a bum shoulder - none of their LB choices have worked out, but I thought they'd have something there at least with Anthony and Ellerbe, and Vaccaro is nothing short of a disappointment.

I love Breaux's story and stashed him on my D/ST - but he's really not great and Browner can't keep up with anyone and gets exposed all the time.

Jordan shows up twice a year and they get nothing from the inside DT's to menace anyone.

Blow it up, rebuild it out. Good luck with that.

Anthony is still very young and will definitely get better. Kikaha has also been very good this season as a situational guy and Ellerbe has been great when he's on the field. Both have been out with injury the past three games and I believe that has been a big contributing factor to the poor play. Past those guys we don't have any depth at all. Hawthorne has always just been a solid guy & is now well passed his prime. Byrd has been the biggest disappointment in the secondary and probably wouldn't be playing much at all if it weren't for the injury to Bush in the first game. Vaccarro hasn't been allowed to roam as a result which is when he is at his best. At CB we've actually had some great play out of a few guys. Breaux has been matched up against a few of the top receivers in the game and has held his own. Swann was playing very well also, but got hurt and Keenan Lewis has been trying to fully heal from his injury last season. He looked to be getting back on track until hitting his knee this week. And Browner... The guy is just very limited in what he can do and the coaches haven't seemed to figure out that he needs help behind him. I won't even go into our defensive line. None of them have played with any consistency. I'm not sure if that's just scheme or talent, but I can't even remember when it wasn't an issue. That's got to be either poor evaluation or poor scheme. Probably a lot of both.
