What have you learned this year?

Fantasy is coming to an end... And unlike most people on this board my team needs a miracle to make it to the playoffs. However, I learned a ton! Thinking about new drafting strats for next year, like bye week stacking and playing the hot offense. I learned that I need to be more patient with my players, e.g. doug martin and eric decker. I also learned that I should research trades more even if I dont know who I am being offered, and I learned that many of the "analysts" dont know what they are talking about - go with your own research and your gut.

Any advice or tips anyone learned this year?

This was my first time playing fantasy football--my girlfriend needed help with her team so I read like crazy 2 days before the draft about basic drafting strategy. Next year, I'll place an eve higher value on WR's rather than RB's (besides the top 5 or so) and I will care about defenses or QB even less (I took a QB in round 8 and a defense in the 12th round). I drafted pretty well, but probably grabbed some RB's (because I was told you should get those first) when I could have gotten a better WR.

Another big thing I learned is to not waste waiver wire picks on stuff you don't really need. I should have waited patiently for someone like Charles or Bell to go down before wasting a waiver wire pick. I'll change that next season.

Having said all that, I have a pretty solid team. And I am glad I was patient with people like Stewart and D. Murray.

I learned injuries suck and learned yet again that sometimes there's not much you can do to have a successful season no matter how hard you try. Had a 5-2 team 4 weeks ago in one league with LeVeon Bell, Jamaal Charles, Arian Foster, and Julian Edelman. The team lost all of those players and 4 games in a row with little chance at the playoffs. Some years it's just not your year.

This site is a great help if you use it the right way. My keepers were A Rodgers and Lynch, my next 2 picks were J Mathews and MacLin. Rodgers is okay but not for where I took him. Lynch , Matthews and were all busts on top of that I lost A Foster. Thanks to the hype about Eifert I took him as my last pick. Also got J Jones and used him while it lasted based on info from The Huddle. One thing that is always emphasized on this sight is to get players that produce on a steady basis as opposed to hit or miss home run players. I have done that this year and it is paying off. My team is mainly composed of players that consistently produce and at least one goes off every week. J Matthews and Maclin are riding the pine as does Lynch about every other game. Another thing is that it is your later drafts that win the games ie Rawls for me.

FYI...the theory of draft RB first, was sound advice 10 yrs ago. Imo, you should tier draft these days...so the position you draft is determined by your draft position really. You have to adapt...

That being said, with all the injuries this year...i think no strategy would have resulted in better results for anyone. This years results have been determined bt happen-stance. I cant imagine anyone made it this year unscathed...

In next few years I will try the zero running back strategy.

There are going to be some good young rookies coming into the league that can probably be had in the mid-to-late rounds. So, I'll be stacking up early on WRs, and maybe Gronk.

...oh yeah, and I learned never to draft any Eagles players. I have been let down the last few years...NO MORE!
