sksmith
Separating a player from his team during a suspension is asinine. Losing 4 weeks of pay is what deters a player from doing things that lead to suspension. Giving him a 4 week vacation is only asking for more problems. I wouldn't be surprised if this incident is what finally causes that rule to change. Grown adults shouldn't be expected to govern themselves accordingly when out in the world? What about the big gap in activity with the team between seasons, is that also asking for more problems?

But there are soooo many examples of professional athletes being unable to manage their lives that the NFL really should reconsider the structure of the rule. Crazy..huh?

Protect your assets as best you can, I get that. But in the end, these are grown men who are accountable for themselves. I have nothing wrong with teams having a guidance counselor of sorts for incoming rookies or players of any seniority, probably a good idea that already exists. The NFL nor the teams should or can be babysitters.

gilthorp
Sounds like he's in a car with young family members - not out in an alley with some thugs. He gets shot. Not sure how you protect someone from being in a car with his family, or from what I'm reading, where he has not been responsible.

You say "in a car with his family" like having his family in the car would prevent him from doing something stupid. I do not know what happened but it is not out of the realm of possibilities that he instigated something even from his car.

Grits and Shins
True. I reserve all judgment at this point - perhaps you have it all figured out already. Nope, I already said I don't know what happened. But the fact that he had family in the car sadly can't be used as a measuring stick of his good or bad behavior - you can't assume his behavior was innocent because he had his family with him. Your comment about him not being in an alley with some thugs seemed to imply that the presence of his family should convince us that he was not behaving badly or that he wasn't with bad people. At this point what really happened doesn't seem to be known, certainly I don't know.

He's trying to giving him the benefit of the doubt, in which I admire, when so many others trying to attack without knowing the totality of circumstances. Boy Named Suh
How the hell do you get shot in the head and not have a life threatening injury? This is what I was wondering. I have heard of freak shots that hit at a crazy angle and deflect off the skull and exit on the other side of the head without ever penetrating the skull, but that seems unlikely. Sounds like he got pretty lucky, or as lucky as possible considering he got shot in the head.

TWICE!! How the heck is this guy alive? Face shots? Or small caliber such as a .22 or .380. Glancing shots from either of those can fail to penetrate the skull and instead cause bad skull fractures. Still an open brain injury but not the type expected from a projectile. I've seen more than one person take a shot to the face and it destroy extensive soft tissue without violated the skull at all. gilthorp
It sounds like he was in Miami Gardens, which is a pretty rough neighborhood. It also appears he was with family and in front of the other victim's house? I hope he recovers from this.
