RowdyRoos
Just looking for some discussion and ideas on the structure of our keeper league. The owners have decided to address how to handle trades during the off-season and trades for draft picks. Hoping to get some different scenarios of how things are structured in other leagues. Current setup. 8 team league. 17 player roster. Lineup 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR/TE, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DST & 8 Bench. We have a ladder type keeper system that goes up one player each year up to 5, then back down to 2. So 2, 3, 4, 5, 4, 3, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc... Mandatory that you keep the league # each year. We have 2 playoff brackets. Top 4 and bottom 4. Draft order is determined as such: #1 - Winner of consolation bracket #2 - 2nd place consolation bracket #3 - 3rd place consolation bracket #4 - 4th place consolation bracket #5 - 3rd place in winners bracket #6 - 4th place in winners bracket #7 - Runner-Up #8 - League champion The winner of the consolation bracket and the League champion gets to place a franchise tag on any player drafted in rounds 10-17 or a player picked up off of waivers IN ADDITION to that year's keeper # (that player will become that round's draft pick in the upcoming draft). For example, in the upcoming 2016 season we are in the year where we keep 4 players. The winner of the consolation and of the league will have 4 keeper players PLUS one franchised player. Waivers count as a 15th round pick (thought was that rounds 16 & 17 would be for a K and backup DEF perhaps). This year's champion picked up David Johnson from the FA pool and will now have him as a 15th round pick...the consolation winner will have Cam Newton as an 11th round pick. The thought for the draft order and the Franchise Tag was to keep players active until the end of the season. It gives all teams something to play for during the playoffs and rewards the team for winning the league championship and also a team from the consolation bracket in hopes of improving the bottom 4 teams. Where we find ourselves now is how to fairly handle trades of draft picks (at any point during the calendar year) and/or trading of players during the off-season. I'm looking for any input or ideas...so please feel free to share any and all ideas/suggestions. (Assumption is made that the # round of pick starts with round 1 AFTER keepers are designated) One Proposal Scenario: Team A has draft position of #3 and Team B has draft position of #6 If team A trades a player to team B for a 3rd round pick during the season. Team A would select #3 in the 3rd round and #6 in the 3rd round. Would Team B then just assume Team A's selection in the 17th round (roster max is 17). Would another option be to allow Team A to make both picks in the 3rd round and their 17th round pick....then have a 10 day trading period to allow Team A the opportunity to negotiate a 2 for 1 deal with another team, thus bringing them into compliance with the roster max of 17? If a 2 for 1, 3 for 2 type deal cannot get done in that 10 day window...then Team A must make a roster cut to get to 17 players. Off-Season Scenario: Team A decides he doesn't have 4 great keepers, has Adrian Peterson and wants to trade him for Lamar Miller and Amari Cooper. Team B has Hopkins, Gronkowski, Allen Robinson and Andrew Luck as his 4 keepers and would trade Miller/Cooper for AP and release Robinson back into the draft. When Team A sends 1 player over and receives 2...is he forced at that moment to release a player from his roster to make room and maintain the max of 17? Would it be reasonable to mandate that it be a QB/RB/WR/TE player and not a K or DEF? Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions. We have had a great league for 3 years and yet we haven't implemented any trading of draft picks or off-season trades and want to add that this upcoming year. Thanks!
