Players to watch: Camp/Preseason Standouts

This idea was thrown around in the Sharpe thread, but hasn't happened yet. Who do you have?

For me, it's KC WR Tyreek Hill. He's been electric in camp so far. He runs a sub-4.3 40, 4.27 I believe, and it shows. He's been called "cheat code" by some fans, because if the QB waits long enough, Hill will just outrun his coverage almost every time. He's also shown the ability to gain some separation on shorter routes.

I doubt he has much fantasy value this year, as the Chiefs' top targets are already set, and it's still Alex Smith under center - but he is shaping up to be an impact 5th round pick.

Some notable performances from last night's preseason games:

Trey Flowers, NEP DE: 6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 QB hits, 1 fum recovery, 1 TD

Cody Latimer, DEN WR: 7-82

Malcolm Mitchell, NEP WR: 4-55, was looking good until this happened

Michael Thomas, NO WR: 4-67

Aldrick Robinson, ATL WR: 3-118 Hadn't heard about this guy before, but 39 yds/catch isn't bad

Kenneth Dixon, BAL RB: 9 car, 44 yds

Allen Robinson, JAX WR: 3-80

Quincy Enunwa, NYJ WR: 2-69

Michael Thomas has been outstanding for the Saints and many are saying he will be the top WR this year for the team.

In deeper leagues, keep an eye out for RB Daniel Lasco and WR Tommylee Lewis. Both are behind a deep stable, but they have also made a big impression. ESPN has an article on Lewis as he was recommended by Parcells and hasn't disappointed.

flowers was a monster last night

I don't want to take anything away from this because his play was outstanding. Just keep in mind the Saints offensive line wasn't in it's regular order. They've been shifting a couple of them around trying them at different positions. Mostly because they are not set at both guard positions or RT. They were hoping that Peat would fit that role, but he's suited as a LT and needs a lot more reps at RT and/or G.

Malcom Mitchell was my fault. I posted a list of Pats WRs in the Edelman thread. A couple of guys remarked that MM was the dude to watch. I penciled him in to my 'late flyer' list. Anyway, sorry about that. Don't worry, I'll stick to drafting retired and jailed players from here on out.

Alex Collins in the Heehawks camp has been doing very well and has earned playing time. One running back to watch tomorrow.

I have been on this guy since college and had him targeted in all of my dynasty leagues and I whiffed on every single draft. I am deflated.

He flashes some Lynch-like qualities to me. Runs angry. He's tackled a little too easily from the legs than I like but still looks pretty good, especially in the Seattle scheme.

Rawls, for all of his good attributes and bursting upon the scene last year, is still an UDFA with a small sample size.

Not much to say in Bears land.

I hear that they expect Jeffery and White to be 1a / 1b and will move them around. Not great news for Jeffery owners, great news for those that have held onto hope that White succeeds.

I also hear they are force-feeding Jacquizz Rodgers the ball as a pass-catching back. He ran with the 2nd team against Denver last night.

This is not good news for Jeremy Langford. The fact they drafted a John Fox-esque back in Jordan Howard -and- the fact they want to involve Rodgers means they have zero confidence in Langford. I am not touching Langford with a 10-foot pole. Honestly, I don't care how far he falls. I'd rather grab Howard late. The Bears are going to be 2-8 or so by Week 10 and will end up giving him 20 touches a game. That's where your value is.

And if you believe what they're saying about Rodgers, watch carefully in the next couple of preseason games to see how much action he gets in the pass game. He might be a little diamond in the rough in terms of PPR value.

Lucky Whitehead has been getting good reports from camp for those of you that get return points

Will add more later

Eta- TE Geoff Swaim's name is coming up all the time too. Wittens not goin anywhere obvioisly but Swaim should be a guy to stash for all you weirdos that play dynasty. I'm sure you can add him for nothing

TE Ross Travis is a converted basketball player who has been making lots of plays in camp for the Chiefs. Kelce's job isn't in danger, but Travis could climb to the TE2 spot if he keeps this up.

what about sparq freak Brian Parker?

Hasn't had a great camp, several drops. On the bubble for sure, although there's still time for things to change.

i believe you, but I don't believe in rodgers. He has a career 3.75 yards/carry or thereabouts. Even if he got 50 catches, I don't see the value in a ppr.

 Look at Danny Woodhead's YPC the past 4 seasons.

I'm not hopping on any sort of Rodgers bandwagon but the numbers you're throwing out aren't supporting the hate.

Is Rodgers going to catch 80 balls like Woodhead? Gosh no. But then again, who would have thought Woodhead would a few years ago?

He was a funky little gadget player in the PERFECT offense for his skillset (Pats). Moved to the Bolts and almost DOUBLED his receptions.

The Bears are going with Langford right now as their #1, but he's on a very short leash. Multiple sources say the team is making every effort to make Rodgers a major part of the offense. Short-sighted? Maybe, but they're pushing it hard.

The Bears - like the Chargers - are going to suck (again) on defense. There will be dump-off opportunities. Have I even considered picking Rodgers in redrafts? Uh, no. But I'm watching preseason games to see what he does. That's the point of this thread.

Who was Woodhead before he went to the Chargers? If there was any team that he could have produced mad fantasy stats on, you'd think it would have been the Pats, no?

No, Rodgers is not the same player as Reggie Bush. I don't get that at all. Don't get the Bush-Woodhead comparisons either. Bush is built like a normal RB. 6', 205 lbs.

Rodgers is 5'6". He capped out at 52 catches in 2013 for the Falcons.

Again, I'm not anointing Rodgers the next Woodhead, or even a regular PPR option. Again, the thread is geared towards giving local/team insight on guys to watch over the next 3-4 weeks.

If the Bears fully commit to using Rodgers as their pass-catcher, yes, I could see him catching 50 balls. If by chance they relegate Langford to the backup spot and use Howard as the RB1, I think that'd improve his chances at becoming fantasy relevant.

Not much more to say here.

i do understand and am having a discussion.

but there's really no point in paying attention to a guy who will never start for your fantasy team. Even in a 16-team league, rodgers has no value to a FF team that is playoff bound and will only cause a rebuilding team to be mediocre and miss a top pick.

if his ceiling is higher, then educate me

to me, this thread is for pointing out players that are off he radar. Guys you're not gonna read much...or anything..about anywhere else.

If I see someone that I disagree with, im just scrolling down. I'm not gonna argue about it in this thread

Fwiw I'm not sure this early in the preseason what his ceiling is. And neither are you
