Make This Trade?

Hey Everyone,

I am in a 10 team keeper, non standard scoring, but for the sake of this conversation let's assume it is standard scoring with a bonus for long TD plays to make things easier. We start QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/TE/FLEX

We keep 3 players, and then refer to the first round after the 3 Keeper rounds as the "1st round". So essentially, the 1st round in our league is the 4th round in a redraft minus the guys who fall through the cracks from stacked teams the year before who wouldn't be available in the 4th.

My 3 keepers are David Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, and Andrew Luck. I traded Devonta Freeman for the 8th pick in the 1st round post keepers (again, essentially a 4th in a redraft). So now, as it sits, I have the 4th pick and the 8th pick in the 1st round after the keeper rounds. (As a side, I know that wasn't an ideal return for Freeman, but I had 4 players I wanted to keep with 3 spots, so I wanted to move Luck or Freeman and Devonta was easier to trade, and I like the stability of a franchise QB in a keeper.)

I was just offered Dez Bryant and a 6th round pick for those two 1st rounders as well as my 3rd round pick from a team that is a bit of a mess and is looking for more picks early to reload.

I am tempted to do this, as I have an extra pick anyway, so I would still have 4 players after the 1st round here, so I don't have to sacrifice depth to get a better player and a top 4 of Johnson/Hopkins/Bryant/Luck is probably about as strong as anyone in our league is going to have. It's essentially starting with three 1st rounders in a redraft + a top 4 QB.

My hesitation is if I stay put I can probably land a top 20 RB and Jordan Reed. So my question is, would I be better served with say Matt Forte and Jordan Reed, or should I just go get Dez. I think Reed can put up pretty similar numbers to Dez (1,000 yards, double digit TDs) and plays a more scarce position, thus I think his value is pretty high. WR is super deep, so I could probably afford to be patient there more than any position. That said, I'm essentially trading two 4th rounders in a redraft for Dez Bryant, and other than 2015 Dez has been dominant. Reed has the injury concerns, and I suppose this year more than past years TE is pretty deep. There's also the off chance Reed gets to my pick in the 2nd.

Sorry for the long post, but what do you guys think? Is this a no brainer to go get Dez here?

Maybe I missed something, but if it is a 3 keeper league, I would you also be able to keep Bryant (making him your 4th)?

Regardless, that a lot of picks to give up for Dez. Depending on the above, if you can drop one of the 1st's or the 3rd, it would make more sense...IMO

Good question. The way we do it is after the keeper deadline where every team is cut down to 3 or less players, you can then go over that total prior to the draft. The keeper deadline for us is basically a roster cut down, but once you've made the cut down, you can trade for other rostered players. Teams who don't keep 3 players get picks in those keeper rounds, and can trade those picks freely as well.

Thanks for the responses!
