Cowboyz1
> Many of you know me and have already figured out what I'm about to say. For those that don't, let me introduce myself. I'm Cowboyz1, which, as you can guess means I'm one of your resident Cowboys homers. There are many fans like me but this team is mine. They are my life. I must master their play like I master my life. For without me my Cowboys are useless, without my Cowboys, I am useless. I must root for my Cowboys true. I must root harder than my enemies who are trying to beat me. I will. So here I am watching my preseason Cowboys like the diligent fan I am, and Romo goes down. My head falls as I get yet another kick in the sack. Yes, the very same sack that was battered black and blue week after week, down after down, incompletion after incompletion, loss after loss last year. I wondered if we would ever see victory again. Watching the likes of Weeden and Cassell tore at my Cowboys sole like a Hyena ripping at the belly of a wildebeest. Like the wildebeest I wanted it to end so I could die a dignified death before watching my insides devoured, still alive and feel the pain of the disembowelment of a season that began with so much promise. Finally, it was over. I had watched another season of Cowboys cratering as the result of injury to our starting QB, starting WR and dysfunctional defense. Yet there was hope. The draft rolled around and new life was given to my beloved Cowboys. I rejoiced as Zeke was announced as our first round stud RB. Camp passed by with everyone healthy. Yes, it was a new year, a fresh start. So here we are on the eve of the 2016 season with a RB on the verge of stardom, a healthy WR corps, great depth at RB, a healthy secondary and a revamped defensive line. For the icing, we all watched our 4th round pick Dak Prescott stun everyone with poise and touch like no other 1st year QB has displayed in, well, ever. Finally, a backup worth the title. Finally, we have someone in the wings that could come in for a game and not look lost should Romo go down. Now all that's left is the dress rehearsal against the vaunted Seattle defense. A chance to see the 1st string offense do it's thing for a half, dawn caps, then give way to Dak in Co. to finish the game off and show for a third time he's ready to go should anything happen to Romo. Three plays into the game it happens. The unthinkable, has happened AGAIN. As I watch Romo reach for his back I am dumbstruck. This can't be happening again. Not again. A promising season starts to disappear like the delicate smoke of a candle that was just snuffed out. My ears perk up as they catch the distant laughter of the Hyenas in the distance as I bring my hands to cover my stomach and touch the wounds left by last years gnashing of teeth. Yet, just before I fell into the abyss of despair and conceded to the inevitable ravaging of another Hyena pack, I began to think. My mind snapped to attention and realized that just maybe all is not lost. Just maybe a serendipitous smile has befallen my beloved Cowboys, and the bright beams of the Sun have decided to shine on my dogs ass for a change. Could it be that Kellen Moore going down thus allowing Dak the reps he would normally not have received be a sign? Is it possible that the same football Gods that set up Kurt Warner to take the Rams to the Superbowl have decided to bless my team with a similar blessing? After all, when have you seen a 1st year rookie play the way Dak has in the preseason? Have you ever seen a QB play like he has in any preseason? I haven't. I know, I know what you're saying, IT's Practice. Preseason is just that, Preseason. Dak hasn't proved a thing yet. Or has he? I don't recall seeing a QB come in day one and throw zero incomplete passes, 2 TDs and stand in the pocket like a Pro like he has. I don't recall a QB coming into game two and doing the same thing but adding 2 more TDs for a total of 4 in one game while posting a perfect QB rating. But could he do it again, against the vaunted starting unit of the Seattle Seahawks, in their stadium, on short notice? Well he answered that too with a 17/23 1 TD performance. The kid gets it. I watched him stand in there and deliver passes on the money in a game he wasn't expected to be in that early and he did it against perhaps the best secondary and pass rush in the business. Sure, it was only preseason but Seattle wasn't just playing vanilla defense, they were bringing heat. So when I say I see the pint glass half full, I mean it. Though the glass is full of bourbon I find comfort that Dez is healthy, our Oline is intact and Zeke proved in the little work he was given, that he IS what we thought he was. A beast with speed, vision and moxie. So I'm here to tell you the season is NOT over. While I am sure there will be growing pains in the regular season, cometh the hour, cometh the man. The Rayneman is here and I for one am ready for a magical season. So Dez owners, Zeke owners, rejoice for Romo going down has just paved the way for something special to happen. Go Cowboys! Shaft
That was beautiful. *Toast with the whiskey* You are one dedicated fan. I'm not a Cowboys, despised them and the Bulls in the 90s because of fair weather fans. This will be an exciting year for the Cowboys. I wish your team the best, well not tooooo much, since I'm cheering for the Giants. Edited August 28, 2016 by Shaft

Apothus
You pen a beautiful rallying cry good sir. I'd equate you to the Independence Day speech from the president in the Will Smith alien movie. Bier Meister
Tl;dr - but we have read this for 20yrs. Every year the boys are going to the sb, but don't. Shorttynaz
Well - if Prescott is half as good as iTwit says he is - you'll be fine. After all, iTwit has been following this kid since the day he nearly had the opportunity to end up in the bottom of his moms stomach instead.

Anyone that watched SEC football the past 5 years knew he was special cowboys just got lucky with not getting cook or trying to trade for a bum lynch congrats you have a probowl qb and the best qb in the draft in the 4th round
Grits and Shins
Without reading a single word ... no, I am not surprised. You always see the Cowboys glass as half full, or full, or overflowing ... never is the glass half-empty or empty or just plain broken.
Grits and Shins
I can't believe people still look at performances in the pre-season with the thought that performance in the pre-season is any kind of indicator of performance in the regular season. Seattle may have had their first stringers in and they may have blitzed but I think we all know they weren't running their full defensive playbook. In addition, often times after several games of game tape are available for a new player his performance drops dramatically as defenses begin to game plan him based on those game tapes.

I'm not deterred. You ole gruff party pooper. The Dak Attack is real. I have an elastic strap for these glasses of mine and just in case I super glued the ends so they can't fall off. I can see clearly now the Rayne is on. I can see all obstacles in our way. Gone are the darkest clouds that made me blind It's gonna be a bright, Bright sunshinin GameDay! InTomWeTrust
why are you arguing with me? When dak brings the cowboys to 6-2 to start the season is this still going to be an argument?
Wpob
Well the football season has OFFICIALLY begun!!! I got my Cowboyz1 team analysis and am ready to rumble. Not a fan of the Cowboys even a little but I respect the level of commitment you have to your team. As a Giants fan, I had a healthy respect for the Cowboys this season and was looking forward to two competitive high scoring games. But this hurts. A lot. It is great that Dak has looked good this preseason and in practice, but the list of players that looked good in pre season and practice only to fade away come game time is too long to post. He may be good in time. I am sure every Cowboy fan had visions of him taking over for Romo in 2-3 years, but not now. As a fan, you have to hope for the best. But just like every Colts fan who hoped their back up would carry them when luck went down will tell you, that is probably not going to happen. I hope he does well. The league can always use electric players and a small part of me would LOVE to see the controversy in Big D if Romo came back healthy in week 9 and Dak had led them to a 5-3 or 6-2 record. But I can;t see that happening. As much as you can find silver linings in their defense, the defense is BAD. If the Cowboys fall behind early, Dak is going to see a ton of blitzes and every coach is going to send the kitchen sink at him. Can he read defenses that move that quick? I have no idea but we will find out. If he plays the whole season, and personally I think he does as there is no reason to rush Romo back and risk permanent damage, 6-10 is the best you can hope for. As much as I hate Romo, if he was healthy all season, that record would be flipped to 10-6.

Do you really think Dak Prescott is going to walk off the field after playing the Giants in week 1 and say, "Meh, LSU had a better defense"? Really? I know you are a sh*t stirrer and like to "mix it up" but statements like this one makes me wonder about your knowledge of football.
