Barndige, what are we to think?

Zero catches his first game. Only two passes thrown to him.

RGIII is out for a while.

I don't see how RGIII being out increases his value. Its only one game to go on to say it does or does not. However the big zero worries me. I'm going to give him another start this weekend and see what happens.

Anyone else's thoughts?

Barnidge should be fine with McCown back under center. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

This. Wasn't sure what to think with RG3 under center. At minimum, Barnidge was a "one year wonder" candidate. With McCown at the helm at least there's a glimmer of hope.

because he likes to be a troll...simple as that.

I've given up responding. Everyone should follow suit. Seriously, even with traffic down considerably there are plenty of people with well-reasoned opinions that you can keep discussions going with. There's just no reason to even waste your time here. I gave up weeks ago and plan on keeping on that.

Why would you post this in a Barnidge thread?

Why are you not ignoring him? Why are you quoting his posts so that those who ignore him still see his stupidity?

As for Barnidge, like Loaf said he dropped both balls thrown to him, not sure why he wasn't targeted more but if you own him I'd worry more about him dropping balls than who is throwing to him how often. Guy is not and never was a stud TE. Just the benefactor of a bad offense that would have some occassional success with one player while trying to come back from 2-3 TD deficits.

I don't think that changes with McCown.

Stevegrab - did u watch Barnidge play last year? He caught everything in sight and looked like a very good TE to my eyes. Why it took him until age 30 to breakout, I'm not sure. I wouldn't be too worried about his drops. He'll be elite status soon with McCown back under center. Maybe RG3 throws a weird ball?

I watched the Browns last year, not all of every game (I've been suffering far too long), he looked good but not nearly as elite as people are treating him.

I'm not worried, he isn't on my fantasy team and what he can do probably doesn't matter for the Browns long term.

I didn't watch Barnidge much last year, but I have trouble believing a tight end can become studly at 30. Every team is going to pass the ball 3,000 yards and throw 20 touchdowns regardless of talent. Sometimes a good player puts up elite numbers because of situation. Barnidge might be a player who should get 50-60 catches and 5-6 touchdowns and got lucky and had a career year. I don't see him repeating those numbers with Gordon, Coleman, and Pryor in the lineup.

Because they have chemistry from last year. RG3 is known for his ability to scramble, make 1 or 2 reads and usually focus on deep passes. McCown isn't stellar at anything specifically but can work through his progressions which usually is where the tight ends come in to play.

I drafted Barnidge in a few leagues because he was an incredible value. I didn't have him ranked as high this year due to his uncertain situation with RG3 plus the fact that last year was a career year at age 30. I drafted him on value and upside and I'm much more optimistic now that he has his QB back from last year. Gordon is out 3 more weeks and hasn't played in over a year. Coleman is a rookie who still has a lot to learn. With McCown, I'd immediately bump Barnidge back to top 5 status. I can't see one argument against it. Guys drop passes. I'm not worried about 2 dropped passes from a QB he has no chemistry with and who is now out of the picture for at least 8 weeks. Barnidge now tier 2 TE with Reed, imo.

Has there been an NFL receiver or tight end that blossomed at 30 years old and continued in subsequent years at an elite level? I can't think of any. I'm curious if there is a precedent for Barnidge having another elite season.

None that I can think of either. There's a first for everything. McCown clearly had a thing for Barnidge and with him back starting, I don't see how Barnidge doesn't continue to be his top guy, especially with 2 new WRs (Coleman, Gordon) where chemistry will need to be nurtured.
