You can't get arrested 11 times and not pay a price. I call it balancing the scales.

UM's Willie Williams out for most of season

University of Miami freshman football player Willie Williams, who was the most heralded high school linebacker in the nation, will be sidelined most of the 2004 season after undergoing surgery for a partially torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

The surgery was performed Wednesday by Dr. John Uribe at Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables.

''Williams will start rehabilitation immediately and will be reevaluated in eight to 12 weeks,'' said UM spokesman Rick Korch in a written statement on behalf of the university.

Typically, according to a doctor familiar with the procedure, William's type of rehabilitation can sideline a player for three to four months.

The injury could change the plans of UM coach Larry Coker, who previously said Williams would definitely play this season. Now Coker might choose to redshirt Williams, especially if he isn't available until late November or December.

Williams, a graduate of Miami Carol City High, injured his LCL at the end of practice Tuesday.

The initial UM diagnosis was a slight sprain, but an MRI performed later Tuesday revealed the ligament damage.

Williams, 6-2 and 230 pounds, has been the subject of intense scrutiny since he signed with UM last February and it was later revealed he had an extensive criminal record. He is currently on probation and was admitted to UM with university-imposed rules he must follow in order to stay a student there and keep his scholarship.

A source close to Williams said because of those rules, he probably wouldn't have been able to play in at least the first four games.

I agree this guy is just a joke.

Maybe he'll grow up over his college career because if he doesn't it will cost him millions in the NFL. His attitude and arrests are going to drop him in the draft quite alot if he doesn't clean it up fast.

I bet he gets in more trouble now that he has free time on his hands.

Reading this part of the article, sounds to me like he already has got himself into trouble.
