What is a catch?

Based on past trends ... how the heck is that ball caught by Beasley a TD? He was going to the ground? How is that different than Dez's catch/no catch?

It was different than Dez's, even if just slightly, but honestly, I was shocked they left it a TD.

It was clear, he dived for the EZ, ball cross the plane, ball hit the ground, ball popped out ... how is that not an incomplete pass based on everything else we have seen?

I said I agree that I thought it should have been incomplete.

Once Beasley crossed the plane, TD, play over. He had already shown that he had possessed the ball prior to getting to the EZ, so once he crossed the plane the play is over.

If you catch the ball in the EZ, you have to maintain possession throughout the play.

You are incorrect. If you are going to the ground you must maintain possession. Clearly the ref thinks he wasn't going to the ground which is why when he broke the plane they upheld the TD. But just crossing the plane doesn't make it a TD if you are going to the ground.

disagree.

Imo he had established possession before going to the ground , that's why it was ruled a td

If you've already caught the ball, showed you've possessed it, are running with it, cross the white stripe, and then it comes out,it can't be a fumble since the play ends when you cross the stripe.

Beasley had already clearly shown possession of the ball prior to crossing the stripe, what happened after the

Crossing of said stripe is irrelevant.

Correct.

If you are of the opinion he had possession and wasn't going to the ground then it is a TD, clearly. My "Incorrect" response wasn't to this particular play but what seemed to be Irish saying the ball crossing the plane makes it a TD no matter what and that isn't a correct statement because it depends on particular factors (ie: going to the ground vs possession).

That's not what I said. I was addressing this particular play and in this case, I am correct. Beasley clearly scored a TD.

This is the problem with today's NFL. No matter how hard they try, and with all of the ridiculous stoppages to check replay footage, at the end of the day it's a judgement call. DId Beasley have possession before breaking the plane or going to the ground? There is no answer to that question without using judgment to answer it. In short, the call on the field is what should matter in these instances.
