The NFL likes having the Raiders in Oakland. Broad fan base... from the trashy "Raider Nation" to the techies of the Bay Area. But,, unlike his pops, Mark Davis has been a very "friendly" owner to the NFL. Doing/saying all the right things and looking out for the betterment of the league, not just the Silver & Black.

This is a HUGH money grab for the NFL and the city of Las Vegas. Can you imagine Sundays in Vegas with all those crazy fools coming out from the Bay Area, not to mention whoever their are playing... their fans will travel too.

It wasn't just a few years ago that the NFL wouldn't even put a exhibition or preseason game there, now they're moving one of their most iconic franchises there.

Money, money... MONEY.

But will it have any effect on their fan base? They are going to be playing in OAK for 2 more years. Will fans there hold up signs saying "Vegas Baby!"? Maybe playing in Vegas is like not having a home field so much. The Raiders have a very broad fan base well beyond the Bay Area. And the line between the NFL and gambling certainly gets blurred here since you know all the casinos will have luxury boxes. There is no other real industry in LV. Interesting.

I was up in the Bay Area on a monthly basis the past 4-5 months and I remember flying in on a Monday after a home game and saw a TON of Raider jerseys at the airport. Meaning people were flying home after watching the game. Probably from LA for the most part but you're right, they have a very widespread fan base.

The Oakland Coliseum is probably the most disgusting and outdated stadiums in the NFL. And unless I'm mistaken, the only one that still shares with an MLB team. They've been trying to get out for years but the way Bay Area real estate works, not only is there hardly any room for a stadium, the cost of land is just insane. Mix in reluctance of public funding and you have yourself an "imperfect storm" for the team's moving. I honestly thought there was a great chance of them coming back to LA for the simple fact they'd have a built-in fan base.

Spitballing here, but I'd bet Raider fans are - on one hand - disappointed their team is "leaving", but if there was anywhere for them to go, Vegas would be the place. That place will be wild on Raider home game weekends.

Gambling of course is a huge industry but the umbrella industry is simple tourism. Not everyone that goes to Vegas gambles. I know, novel concept. This will bring in a TON of new business to the city. I wonder if there will be special provisions in terms of betting on/against them though.

I haven't been to Vegas in years (not really by choice) but going out there on a Friday night, partying for a day and a half and then going to watch the game (and I'm not even a Raider fan) sure sounds fun.

Brilliant move if you ask me. The NFL wants to be a global sport (see: more games in London). Moving three franchises in the span of about a year to "global" cities (everyone in the world knows where LA and Vegas are) builds their brand. No one in Europe or Asia knows where Cleveland, Oakland or heck even Chicago are.

I would agree, Vegas should really benefit from having the Raiders there. I would imagine the hotels and casinos are going to love this for 8 weekends a year. The police maybe not so much...

Filed for relocation and probably a done deal (still need owners approval, which is likely).

As for where they play, nothing really concrete at this point. Would they want to stay in Oakland, will fans still attend games? Can they possibly play at Sam Boyd stadium in Vegas? (If the Chargers can play in a sub 30K seat soccer stadium I think a college stadium near 50K would work.) Of course there is the heat to deal with for a day game in Sept/Oct, so if they play there probably road games and primetime early.

Somebody mentioned looking for gear in the airport in a few weeks when they're there, not sure how likely to see Las Vegas Raiders branded gear that soon, team will need to prepare for that, get NFL approval and so forth. And if they are not moving to LV now to play games, they probably remain the Oakland Raiders until then (or closer to the move, like the off season before).

We should try to organize a Las Vegas trip for a meet and greet...I know I'd like to meet some of you who I've talked to for a few years and never met in person...anyone think it could work?  See a game have a few and BS for a bit. What could go wrong?

You've got at least 2 seasons to plan a get together for a Raiders game in LV, possibly 3. And the stadium deal still has some kinks to work out, most notably that Mark Davis thinks he can dictate all the terms for people using it, while paying almost nothing to build it.

So with all that time we should work on getting a game all would agree to see and possibly a group travel discount thrown in. I knew it was at least a 2 year lead Steve. Sometimes that's what it takes for STRANGERS to group together. Given the variables it really should never get off the ground...lol. We all could use a break from day to day BS...Right? Rich or poor we can save for a trip 2 years from now if we so choose. Vegas has every $$$ type of hotel and some could drive...It was just a thought. I'd like to see you guys in person and buy a round or two for you Steve and some of the rest of you as well. lol :brew:

Looking at you Gopher!

I'm always out there during week 1 or 2 to kick off the season.  I'll keep my ears on as the time draws near.  My brother and law and I have usually bet the raiders so we can spend most of the one o'clock games out there walking around yelling 'DA RAYYYDAAAS'.  One year we struck gold on the Jags vs Raiders matchup.  He tackled me in the payout line at Caesars after the game.  Good times! :brew:

Sounds like a reason to create a new BOTH league and draft it up that weekend.
