Darren Sproles

I've read up on this kid, Darren Sproles, and know his numbers are nasty. But he also seems a bit small. Not skinny or weak maybe, but certainly short at 5'7.

Now I haven't actually seen him play, so I ask the people like KState that have seen him play, will he be a solid NFL player in your opinion?

Personally I remember Napolean Kaufman over at the University of Washington. He was a great college RB, incredibly exciting and shifty, great stats, but only like 5'8". He had a few servicable years in the NFL, but in the end I personally believe he was not big enough or strong enough to run up the middle, where as in college he was able to to some degree.

So, will Darren Sproles be a very good or great NFL rb? And who else do you see that can successfully go from being a great college RB to a great NFL rb? Being a Pac 10 kid, that R Bush from USC looks pretty solid.

Everyone that sees Sproles play and that talks to him says he's a mirror of Barry Sanders. Before we get carried away I'm not saying he will be a Barry Sanders. People compare them because they are similar in many ways. The way they play, the way they are shy and do not like interviews, the way they are humble. They both are from Kansas and they both are about the same height.

Barry Sanders 5'-8" 200lbs.

Darren Sproles 5'-7" 185lbs.

Sproles will add or subtract from his draft value during the year but regardless a team will take him in the 2nd round the latest. He plays in the BIG 12 and goes up against good, tough defenses like Oklahomo, Texas & Nebraska and never missed a start. Those performances will go a long way in telling NFL coaches and GM's that he can handle the load at the next level.

We'll have to see how it goes in the NFL for Sproles, I think a lot depends on where he goes. At the VERY least he can do a Daunte Hall type thing.

I don't care if Sproles is 3'2" and weighs 68 lbs.  He can bench press more weight than most offensive lineman!  I'm sick of the "too short" or "too small" argument.  Darren Sproles is the greatest running back I've seen since Barry Sanders....and I'm an OU fan!

Plain and simple...Darren Sproles is electrifying! This kid has everything it takes to be an incredible NFL running back. I'm a Sooner fan and very proud to be one. That being said, I'm not oblivious to the rest of the world like some of our other fans like Sgt. Ryan. I don't have any problems saying that their may be other good players out there that don't play for the Sooners. Darren Sproles is one of those. He's strong, he's fast, he's shifty. Let me think of other running backs with those qualities...hmmm...Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Gayle Sayers...need I go on? You don't have to be built like John Riggins to be a great running back.

Here's something else for you to chew on that will obviously bring on some more teasing but, hey that's what we're here for. My top college RBs of our time:

1. Herschel Walker

2. OJ Simpson

3. Barry Sanders

4. Billy Simms

5. Archie Griffin

6. Darren Sproles

7. Ron Dayne

8. Jim Brown

Yeah, that's how much I think of this kid.

Unfortunately, history is against the little big man. Take a look at the first round RB's of the 90's. I'm sure many of them were viewed as the "next someone". Most didn't pan out. I hope he does succeed, but I don't see it...

Blair Thomas

Emmitt Smith

Darrell Thompson

Steve Broussard

Rodney Hampton

Dexter Carter

Leonard Russell

Harvey Williams

You are a f"n idiot, period. Best back since Barry is the biggest crock of Athena Ive ever heard. Shut your *** mouth about being a Sooner fan, you are making the rest of use look as ignorant as you.

There is no way you can leave Ricky Williams in college off any so called list, Id rank him above Sproles. Earl Campbell as well, and Bo Jackson would be a landslide favorite over Sproles. Its embarassing how stupid Urlacher is a fraud is. Don't ever mention you are a Sooner fan, or my name again, you idiot. GO embarass yourself to some other affiliation. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

When Sproles has his 1st 3 TD game in the NFL you can compare him to the great Q Griffin. Or when Sproles racks up 7 TDs in a game vs a national top 10 team on the road like Q did vs Texas then you can put him in the same discussion.

Sproles is a scat back like Warrick dunn was, who happens to rack up huge yards vs 1 AA teams and inferior teams. he has 1 credible thing on his resume, he ripped OU a new one in a game that meant nothing to OU. But its still the best thing he has done in college. And something tells me there will be some payback when those 2 teams meet this yr, all but ending any Heisman spculation in a watered down yr of Heisman candidates.....

Im not even sure Sproles is the best RB in the Big 12. Adrian Peterson is lookign impressive.

And by the way, what did OU just do to Wac-10 power Oregon today, 31-7.

Oregon has more wins of any team in the Wac-10 in the last 3 yrs prior to this yr. So they must be a power in that conference.

Further more, Snyder is turning Sproles into a joke. You give it to him 42 times in a blowout week 1, leaving him in the 4th qtr of a blowout to rack up yards 1- AA opposition, and the same thing today with 38 carries when you beat a team by 20. I got 2 words for Snyder, Aint Happening.

Don't know about Sproles too much and his chances at NFL stardom, but Adrian Peterson will be seen on Sundays in the not so distant furture!!!!!!!!!

So far this year as a back up!!! he has 400 yds on 65 atts. & 5 TD's (6.15 avg per carry). Not to take anything from Sproles but he is the starter and has almost 30 more carries than AP......I just hope AP hangs around for 4 years, and finishes what's just getting started!

And get this!!!!! AP is the first (true)freshman in OU history to rush for 100 yds or more in his first three games!!! Any bets as to first 4????

If Stoops gives this kid the nod and lets him start the nation better take notice!! hell even if he doesn't start they sure as hell better keep an eye out for him!!!! :bigshock:
