Vote Quimby2
Looks like the Noles may have a new QB. The coaches are going to review the tapes and name a starter either today or tomorrow. No way can they go back to Rix. The guy just has no business being a QB in a top college program. This was the first game in three years where I felt optimistic and wasn't bracing for the inevitable Rix error. With a, once again, dominant D the Noles can make some noise with a good(doesn't have to great) QB. Man, I hope they make the right choice. Vote Quimby2
F'n right! September 27, 2004 Wyatt Sexton to start at quarterback -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gene Williams (Dot Com) Warchant.com Publisher What could have been a difficult decision for Bobby Bowden and the Seminole coaching staff turned out to be a no-brainer. Redshirt sophomore Wyatt Sexton will be FSU's starting quarterback this Saturday against North Carolina. The choice was an easy one since senior Chris Rix is likely out for two weeks with a high ankle sprain suffered in the Clemson game. Sexton threw his first career touchdown pass on Saturday. "When we had our staff meeting this morning Randy Oravetz (team trainer) read our injury report and said that he had a high sprained ankle that had swollen up pretty big," Bowden said. "He is looking at probably at least two weeks. What does that mean? Does it mean he will be able to start practicing in two weeks, that he may be ready in two weeks, or how long we don't know. So Wyatt Sexton will be your quarterback and we are going to move (Drew) Weatherford up as No. 2 and we are going to try to redshirt Xavier Lee if we can." Sexton came on in relief of Rix late in the first quarter of the Clemson game and completed 17 of 26 for 162 yards and threw one touchdown. This Saturday will be his first career start in college. There probably couldn't be a better time for FSU to break in a new starting quarterback. North Carolina ranks 106 out of 117 teams in Division 1A in total defense. Syracuse, who FSU plays in two weeks, ranks 73rd. "I just hope he does as good as I think he will," Bowden said. "Now, I hope this week he can go out and do a little bit better." Since taking over the starting job as a redshirt freshman, this Saturday's game will be the first Rix misses because of injury. He did not start four games in his sophomore season after being benched in favor of Adrian McPherson. Bowden noted that Weatherford, an Elite 11 quarterback out of Land O' Lakes, will move up to No. 2 primarily because Lee is still learning how to take snaps under center. All through high school at Daytona Beach Seabreeze, Lee played out of a shotgun formation.
URLACHERisGOD
Finally, after last year's relatively disappointing season and the first 2 games of this year, your 'Noles FINALLY look like THE 'Noles. I was able to watch the game on Saturday and the entire team (on both sides of the ball) seemed to play better with Wyatt under center. Kind of suprising that Bowden finally actually "pulled the trigger" on Rix, though. Edited September 27, 2004 by URLACHERisGOD
Vote Quimby2
I think the injury to Rix (high ankle sprain) allowed Bowden to "pull the trigger". I'm not sure we win that game if it hadn't happened. I feel bad for Rix and I don't wish an injury on anyone, but I think this team is much improved without him.
