Leinart will win the Heisman

I'd say that about locks it up, 360 yards and 4 tds at the start of the 4th quarter.

I don't see anyone even coming close to USC this year, if they are shedding through the Notre Dame Defense like this, OU would be better off just forfeiting if they make the title game, cause that D will be destroyed!!

Auburn may have a shot, just because they have the best D in the country, but i don't even know if they'd slow 'em down.

There are countless other QB's with better numbers than White or Leinart, but these two teams are in an elite class this year, IMO White will be put on many voters back burner for the simple fact that he has already won one, they will not be inclined to give any player two Heismans anytime soon and White's performance over the final two games last year made many voters reconsider selecting him.

400 yds and 5 TDs on National TV vs Notre Dame regardless how bad their pass defense is, Yeah he may very well win the Heisman now.  Though next weeks Big 12 Championship will also be a National TV game and White,  even after 400 yds and 5 TDS still has better stats than Leinart.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/statistics?s...r=2004&group=80

White has 2 more TDS, 1 less INT and a higher passer rating, with 13 fewer sacks.  But only trails by 41 yds passing with 18 fewer pass attempts.

OU also has almost 500 yds rushing more than USC, which shows they run the ball a great deal more than USC and rely less on White than USC does on Leinart and still White has better stats.  Im not saying White will win the Heisman, I just wouldnt say its a done deal for Leinart either.

White has been flawless this year. He is definitely using all his arsenal.

Imagine what Leinart's stats would be if he had Mike Williams. White has had Clayton all season. Leinart began the year with only Steve Smith as a dependable option. Then Jarrett emerged and TE Dominique Byrd came back from injury, but Smith and Chris McFoy went down with injuries. Only now, beginning with the ND game, does Leinart have a full arsenal of weapons. Jarrett, Byrd and Smith are special, with McFoy and Mitchell also solid options. More impressive than Leinart's stats is how he succeeded with a patchwork group for so long.

To me that is what makes USC so great. They expect to win and may bend, but not break on defense. Leinart would have 40 tds this year if Williams was playing. We can thank Clarett for making Williams stupid. No doubt Fury that we are just seeing the beginning of what USC is capable of. Nice little edge considering teams will not have much tape to watch to prepare.

OU is an awesome team as well. Their o-line is the best in college football. They have arguably the best running back and a slew of good wrs with Clayton a difference maker. When USC dispatches UCLA and OU runs over William and Mary then we can get down to some real prognosticating. :D

Yeah, losing two NFL-caliber WRs (incl. KColbert) was bad enough, but he also had to deal with only one returning starter on the O-line. That group is now coming together nicely. With Smith, McFoy and Byrd all back and looking good, he's got as good a group as White or anyone else to work with. And I dare say, Chow is the best coach in the country at making the necessary adjustments to get mismatches as the game goes on.

Bush making that move on the wheel route and going 69 yards to the house was no fluke. If you have it on tape, check this out: the LB was coming over to help the CB as the ball was snapped; but as Bush was making his first move inside, to get around the CB, Leinart looked to the middle and did a quick pumpfake to freeze the LB right there. That allowed Bush to get free, and the rest, as they say, is history...

We'll see. And I don't think Leinart has the trophy yet - it would require another big game this Saturday, and I think White and AP are still very much in the running. If AP has another huge game, he might get it.

The Orange Bowl should be a great game....

Notre Dame pass defense was ranked 105 in the country.  I dont think carving this defense is a huge feat.  But nonetheless, people are looking for a reason to give USC a free pass, and Leinart the Trophy.  So be it.  But come Jan 5, they have to earn that Crystal Trophy on the field against another team fighting for the same title, unlike a year ago, when a weak Michigan team laid down for USC while the 2 best teams in the country were playing for the title that LSU eventually won 21-14.

Jason White already has a Heisman, he wants another Crystal Football.

Leinart doesnt deserve it over White, and AP hurt Whites chances. Should be interesting. But if Leinart gets it, it will be a travesty, as how many things can you give USC, for being left out last yr. Come to think of it, if there was a 4 team playoff last yr, BCS #1 OU would face #4 Michigan, and #2 LSU would face #3 USC. OU and LSU win, and those 2 play for the title, which is essentially what happened. So I don"t get the so called travesty. When OU destroys USC, there will be folks saying its a travesty Auburn got left out over USC, and that USC got a free pass this yr, for last yr because they were supposedly left out last yr, when in actuality, that would not have been the case if there was a playoff. The best possible scenerio for USC happened, they got to play the weak sister Michigan while LSU and OU played for the title, and then they stole a share of it. Tehn they get a free pass in 2004, because some felt they were left out, so Leinart gets teh Heisman over more deserving White or AP, and then USC shows the country Jan 4, they didnt deserve a piece last yr, the Heisman this yr or a shot over Auburn this yr. Makes me sick to think about it. If you saw the game today vs UCLA, or the game vs Va Tech, they were given those 2 ball games bad rediculous calls from the refs. I cant wait until this team gets exposed for the fraud it is. They play no one, Cal showed today, they can barely hang with S Miss, and Texas should jump them in the BCS as they are more deserving, as is Boise St for that matter. Id bet if Louisville played Cal or USC< they would roll them both.

Addressing your 4 main points, as I numbered them above:

1) Your opinion, LSU beating USC - we'll never know...

2) This year has nothing to do with whether or not USC couldve beaten OU or LSU last year. Again, we'll never know! C'mon Sarge, try to use better logical arguments that have some substance. And I might even agree that White or AP deserve the statue more than Leinart, but only for one selfish reason - I'm hoping that Matt's got a potential Heisman as motivation to come back next year...

3) They played VaTech and Cal, 2 top 10 teams, and OU played TX, a top 10 team. How is this substantially different?

4) Louisville would "roll" over USC and Cal? Again, just your opinion, and I think this one is the most far-fetched of them all...

Let's see what happens in Miami....

You got to admit, Auburn and OU both look better than USC right now, and when OU rolls USC, there is going to be alot of press how this team got a free ride all yr because they were left out last yr. Im just predicting it now, and that Leinart will also steal a Hesiman. But if Leinart doesnt win it this yr, there is no use coming back. Reggie and AP will both beat him next yr, and he should be smart enough to know that. Reggie should be the featue back next yr ove L White and AP wont have the freshman tag on him holding some voters from votign for him.

Its the rest of the schedule that is so different. Struggling vs unranked Stanford and Oregon St as well as UCLA today is definately not impressive.

This is the frustrating part of all of this ...

1) I'd like to see it agreed preseason which teams' players are eligible as "elite class" so we can send a memo to the others telling them they can't win the heisman because their Division I school is not really a Division I school. If there are weakling schools out there who are clearly not elite, get them out of Division I and lets only focus the Heisman on the remaining elite class. AND DON'T LET MIAMI stack it's schedule against these putzes just to be able to go 10-1 again.

2) The fact that he won last year should be irrelevant to whether he's the nation's best player this year ... Call it the Lance Armstrong rule.

3) The nature of his performance after he won it last year, since those two games are both still last year.

All that should count is performance this year vs Division I opponents up to the point of the final vote deadline. Nothing else.

Rant, rant, rant, rant ...
