Heisman Trophy Finalists Announced

Benson is arguably the best RB in football.  You could make an argument for AP, and AP probably will be hands down next year.  The fact that Bush is there, and Benson isn't makes the award this year a joke.

I hate UT, but I agree 100%.

Bush doesnt even have a position and stats are not even close. Bush is a difference maker, but not a Heisman Candidate.

You can make a case for the Heisman being a joke every year if you want, until they vote for the best player, instead of the few on highy touted teams, in will always be a joke. Just look at last year, White wins because people sent their votes out early then he goes out and shows his true colors losing the next two games. He then realized he would be lucky to be drafted in the first 5 rounds, goes back for another year and now he may be lucky to have improved that position by a round.

Give it up. Seriously. We know you don't like the Sooners nor their fans but, what will always be a joke is you. Man, I can't wait until after the game on January 4th so we can be rid of you.

Reggie Bush

Matt Leinart

Adrian Peterson

Alex Smith

Jason White

Personally I am shocked that C Benson isn't in there.  He wouldn't have won, but he should be top five.

I guess the Heisman is all about what player is the most important to his team. Last week I felt that White deserved this award for his numbers. He is very important to his team, no doubt, but Peterson is why they are undefeated. He single handedly won the toughest game for the Sooners against Texas. So maybe you give it to Peterson. But, look at Alex Smith. Smith is undoubtedly the reason why Utah is where they are today. Bush is a difference maker for USC, and has contributed from several positions. So if we are giving the award to the most versitile player, then Bush is the man. When I stop to think about what Leinart had to do with a completely new o-line and no receivers, then he shoots up the list in a hurry IMO.

Here is my new list in the order of most important to their team:

1. Alex Smith

2. Matt Leinart

3. Adrian Peterson

4. Jason White

5. Reggie Bush

If we go by numbers, then you have to give it to White.

Are you taking into account all players yet or just the ones who have been invited to NYC? I'm assuming just the invites.

Just the guys that made the list.

Then if by having nearly 60% :D of the team's total offense makes one single guy important, then I agree with Smith. That does not mean I believe he should win the Heisman. I simply agree with you by saying Smith is the most important guy on that team.

However, I would venture to say that Bush is more important to USC then is Leinart. If USC beats Oklahoma, it won't be at the hands of Leinart. I can pretty much guarantee you that. IMO if Oklahoma stops Bush, Oklahoma wins hands down.

Of the finalist, you have to say that Alex Smith meant more to his team than any of the others. The fact that USC and OU have two finalist just proves that they have a good team, and with two good players. Don't get me wrong, Bush isn't even qualified. You can't say that AP or White meant more to their team than Smith. For that matter, Benson meant more to his team than AP and White. Texas has no Wr's and their QB is not a very good passer, so everyone knows they are going to run the ball. Of the finalist I would have to rank them the way that you did. In reality I would still have Smith ahead, with Benson either right in front or right behind Leinart.

I agree. I don't follow all the teams, so I can't comment on who deserves to win. But Benson deserved to be invited. Every game everyone knew Benson was gonna get the rock because UT had no passing game. And against everyone except OU, he delievered. OU was just too good for a very shaky UT team. Without Benson, UT has at least 3 losses. It's a shame Benson didn't get invited, he deserved it.

And it pains me to say it, but from the players we have to pick from, AP should win from what I have seen. But I haven't seen any of A Smith so my insight is limited to the other four players.

I don't think Benson deserved to go just based on the fact that he stated himself to be more important than the team, when siting that he would rather win the Heisman that beat OU, now he has neither. Serves him right! Selfish PUNK!! IMO this is why he was not invited.

In other words: you don't believe Benson shouldn't have gone because he plays in the Big 12 and for the state in which Sarge lives.

We can read you like a book. :D

IMO Benson is probably the most deserving player, but his statements earlier this year caused a riff and has left him on the outside looking in . This has nothing to do with anything other than his own actions. If i had a vote for Heisman it would have went Benson :D .........without his comments, now i feel as though Leinart will win and probably should.

In a sense, I would prefer White to not win the Heisman. I hate that the NCAA announces the Heisman before the Bowl Games. I think it has psychological impact on the player that wins it. I'd rather put a "2004" on the side of Memorial Stadium than a bronze statue in the trophy case. Of course, both would be nice, though. :D
