Although I put "grew up" there, it's not quite that simple. I was an Army brat and we lived in Oklahoma during my formative years(when I was first old enough to watch and enjoy football). We got all OU and Dallas Cowboys games on the tube every week. When you move all over the place and have no time to either lose or develop another allegiance, you stick with what you knew first. It's also real easy to develop a powerful bond with something that so many others hate so openly.

Edit to add: Along the way I graduated from the University of South Florida. We do have a team and I do attend the games so they are also "my team" but don't offer much to get excited about on a national level. For now it's like having 2 favorite teams from 2 different levels of college football.

I graduated from USC, but having grown up in central CA, I've been a fan since Charlie White's days. Mostly pride, but not all good....

Nothing has been more devastating to my faith/fanatical support of the team and its players than the OJ mess. Too bad he didn't kick it in a car crash or something before doing what he did - his legacy could've stayed in tact. And if he shows up again at the practice facility there in Miami like he did 2 years ago, I'll be pissed...

Nevermind :D You win!

But I got a good education with few distractions. :D

I grew up a Texas fan. I have pictures of me as a baby in a Texas sweatshirt. I wanted to go there, but they did not offer the degree I was looking for, but I still root for them. My little brother went to OU, and he and all of his friends are the most arrogant bunch of people this side of an Aggie, so that cemented my love for the Longhorns. Plus, I just have a thing for those girls with chaps on in the endzone.

MMMmm, behind CA girls, TX girls are my second favorite.  And FL, GA - ah hell, anywhere where they can wear next to nothing for most of the season!

Don't get me wrong, I'd take a California girl over some Northern Girl that is bundled up, with trees growing on her legs, or carries enough natural insulation that she doesn't have to bundle up. My only problem with California girls is they are too fond of the silicone and collegen (sp) for me, that is why they rank 3rd behind Texas girls, and Louisiana girls (I'm only countingthe Louisiana girls that have all of their teeth and appendages). :D

Let the rain of bullets start...

Here's my story:

Grew up in Iowa. Since Iowa does not have a pro football team, this is how my allegience to the Chicago Bears comes into play. However, I never watched nor was really interested in any college sports while I lived in Iowa. I moved to Oklahoma in February of 2000. Come to find out, it's a law in Oklahoma that you have to be a Sooner or Cowboy football fan. So, I started watching and enjoying college football after I had moved here. Not a bad year to move to Oklahoma and become a Sooner fan (2000).

I voted for option 3. However, I guess you could consider me a mix of #3 and #5. :D

Does "Just jumped on the bandwagon when it drove by" apply if it happened when I was 10 years old and have now been a fan for over 20 years? :D

Because that's the only option that really fits.

I was born in OKC, lived there 1 1/2 years, family moved to Lubbock, then to the DFW area when I was 8. I am an avid dolphin fan and Sooners fan... When I was young I liked to watch the dolphins play b/c they had the dolphin in the pool behind the goal post at home games, that would swim around with the ball on his nose after a field goal was made...as for being a sooner fan as monster implied living in a house with two OU fans it was pretty (the law) much root for the sooners or move out!!!!! I can remember back to the Joe Washington days :D , but hell I was only 5 at the time......so I remember very little of it!!!!

And as for the girl situation, I lived in CA for almost 7 years, I was 18-24 when I lived there( air force, flight mechanic. been all over the world) no problem with the CA girls....but TX girls, in my book, are way ahead of the CA girls!!!!!!

Like the song says:

I've seen a lot of places

I've been around the world

I've seen some pretty faces

Been with some beautiful girls

But after all I've witnessed one thing still amazes me

Just like a miracle you have to see to believe

'Cause God blessed Texas with His own hand

Brought down angels from the promised land

Gave 'em a place where they could dance

If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance

I've been sent to spread the message

God blessed Texas

Just not in football !!!!! :D

Went to school there, and was born and raise in the Great State of Michigan.

Never cared for the other school. I guess U could say I was brain wash from day 1.

Now Im doing the same to my son, poor kid. Great thread. I always wonder how some of these clowns on here were so passionate of there teams. And yes theres some HOTTIES here, but u really have to look. Have to agree about the Usc ladies, I saw plenty of them last year, as Usc thump Us, that song is still in my beeping head.

So I root for Pitt.

Lived all my life 90 miles northeast of Pitt and about 70 west of State College. All my family rooted for Penn State. I had to be different rooted for Pitt since I was a little lad. Hasn't exactly been great listening to all the PSU BS in the past. Finally the last couple years I can talk the BS to my relatives. :D

When I was a kid and would watch college football, I grabbed a hold of University of Michigan. Like the Maze and Blue better than Green and White (although I grew up closer to East Lansing). I guess you throw me into the "Just jumped on the band wagon (with the neatest colors) as it drove by" category.
