no one
From CBSSportsline: "Why not? The Huskers are decimated both mentally and physically after the Rose Bowl ambush. Jammal Lord has to replace Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch. Lord has thrown 65 passes in the past four years (going back to high school). Dahrran Diedrick is not a go-to I-back despite leading the Big 12 in rushing. The defensive backfield, a strength last year, has to be rebuilt. There are trips to Penn State, Iowa State, Texas A&M and Kansas State. The only lifesaver is that Nebraska plays 13 regular-season games, so it might be able to eke out a 9-4 record. There is some serious back-to-the-drawing board stuff here. The Miami game showed how far behind the Huskers are in terms of team speed. The program spent 10 years catching up after losing to Miami in the 1984 Orange Bowl. Now it looks like Nebraska has to hit the recruiting trail hard again to compete with the Florida schools. Nebraska will continue to compete for Big 12 titles, but national titles are a long way off." _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- I agree 100%, NU will have their second off year in the last 3. But an off year at NU still adds up to 9 or more victories.
Clubfoothead
Not saying I diagree, but let's look at the schedule: Nebraska Football Schedule: 2002 Schedule: Date Opponent Location Time Aug. 24 Arizona State (BCA Classic) Lincoln 6:45 Aug. 31 Troy State Lincoln TBA Sept. 7 Utah State Lincoln TBA Sept. 14 at Penn State State College, Pa. TBA Sept. 28 at Iowa State Ames Iowa TBA Oct. 5 McNeese State Lincoln TBA Oct. 12 Missouri Lincoln TBA Oct. 19 at Oklahoma State Stillwater, Okla. TBA Oct. 26 at Texas A&M College Station, Texas TBA Nov. 2 Texas Lincoln TBA Nov. 9 Kansas (Homecoming) Lincoln TBA Nov. 16 at Kansas State Manhattan, Kan. At Penn State, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Iowa State. If they go 3-2 in those they wil lget to nine no problem.
Phat1
Nebraska homer has to get a word in on this. While I agree this most likely be a down year for the program, they will definitely get nine wins. I also disagree with a lot of what cbssportsline said. 1. Dahran Detrick is a go to back. Last year's offense was centered on Crouch, which left Detrick short on carries. Also, when he did get carries, they were to spaced out. He was never given a chance to get into a rythm during any game. I will say it here, Detrick will get 2,000 yds rushing this year. 2. As it stands right now, Jamal Lord is not even the favorite to be the starting QB. There is serious talk of one of the redshirt freshman winning the starting job. 3. As for the whole team speed thing. I don't think that the Miami game could even be considered as a good example. It was made clear during the game that the Nebraska equipment mangers brought the wrong shoes to game. This resulted in Nebraka players falling on their ass all over the field. This isn't an excuse for losing the game, I've posted several times that Nebraska was outmatched in that game and shouldn't have even been there. OK, let the bashing begin.
