policyvote
Today, Jeff Smoker was suspended by the team indefinitely for "violating team rules", which almost always means "partying too much". The crazy thing is, I hung out with him (and some other friends) last night, and he certainly didn't act like anything was up . . . it must have been a surprise to him, too. This is just a terrible situation for everyone involved. From a football perspective, Smoker's been struggling mightily the past few weeks, and the sophomore who'll replace him (Damon Dowdell) could provide some spark. He's a very good athlete, and has quite a bit of mobility. He doesn't have Smoker's accuracy or veteran savvy, but lately Smoker hasn't had those either. I hope this works out for the best--but it's obvious that this season is down the tubes. What a terrible waste of a talented team . . . and Charlie Rogers' last year here. Oh, well. Bobby's already lost his job--perhaps he's trying to save Smoker's career with some tough love. I dunno, I have a terrible sinking feeling about the whole mess. Egret
Man, there are all sorts of rumors flying around Lansing about this kid! I've heard anything from gettting into a fight with Bobby Williams, to using cocaine, to even trafficking narcs. I feel sorry for the kid, but somebody's got to get some control over this team.
