myhousekey
http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/1202/1470125.html It was definitely time to go. His players quit on him on Friday. That's the last sign that anyone needs to know he's finished.
Kansas State 2000
He will get a job offer soon.
Hugh B Tool
Like him or not he has had one of the best winning percentages of any Head Coach over the last eight years or so in Major College Football. As KSU said he'll be getting some phonecalls soon. Maybe he'll hook up with a decent Athletic Dept. this time.
spain
Since Texas A&M has UT envy, maybe they can try to lure Mack Brown away from Texas...
myhousekey
My only complaint I had was everyone always throws his record out there when they talk about him. Winningest A&M head coach ever etc... Here's the two stats that bug me the most (and most people won't talk about) Before the Big 12: 68-15-2 (81.1%) 85 games After Big 12 Record: 49-26 (65.3%) 75 games Bowl game record: 3-8 (27.3%) 4 losses at the Cotton Bowl 1 loss at the Hancock bowl 1 loss at the Sugar bowl 1-1 at the Alamo Bowl 1 loss at the Independence Bowl 1 win at the Holiday bowl 1 win at the Galleryfurniture.com bowl Things were nice and dandy when we got to play in that SWC for all those years but it definitely shows he can't compete with the big boys. spain
polksalet:Paging houston nutt, paging houston nutt. You heard it here first. Polk: I thought you would want your Aggies to hire a black coach. I heard Denny Green was available...
Clubfoothead
The Aggie I work with is convinced that Jimmy Johnson will be the next coach of A&M. lol
Grits and Shins
I am so tired of hearing about how he is such a winning coach. I don't care about the games against unranked opponents ... take a look at his record against ranked opponents. Then you will understand why I have wanted Slocum to be fired for years now. 'bout time.
spain
Blitz: Who would you like to see replace Slocum and who are the candidates they are considering?
Grits and Shins
spain:Blitz: Who would you like to see replace Slocum and who are the candidates they are considering? Sadly, Spain ... I am not sure who I would like to see replace him as I don't really track college football well enough to know likely candidates. I just know that it was time. Clearly if I could have my pick I would have Jimmy Johnson (just off the top of my head). That will never happen. Talk is that there is heavy interest in Dennis Franchione. spain
Franchione was supposedly contacted by the Aggies and in response, Alabama extended his contract and gave him a HUGE raise to keep him in Tuscaloosa. I havent heard any names being mentioned yet but I will post when I hear any rumors out there...
myhousekey
Well, it looks like at least their still talking about it.. Report: Franchione talking with Texas A&M http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/1204/1471312.html
Kansas State 2000
Franchione moves around alot and everywhere he's gone winning has gone with him. New Mexico TCU Alabama Texas A&M will get a big time coach if they get him.
Grits and Shins
I do believe that Franchione is an Aggie Alum
myhousekey
Looks like Franchione is the man... http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/1205/1471623.html Franchione reportedly will receive five-year deal According to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dennis Franchione has reached an agreement to become the new coach at Texas A&M. Franchione was scheduled to meet with Texas A&M officials Thursday, just three days after R.C. Slocum was fired after 14 seasons with the Aggies. spain
It looks like the Aggies outbid Bama for Franchione. A&M will be paying about $2 million per year. If anyone can turn that moribund program around, its Coach Fran..
Grits and Shins
spain:If anyone can turn that moribund program around, its Coach Fran.. I hope so. This year wasn't all bad. The offense finally showed signs of life with the new offensive coordinator and the true freshman at QB. If only the defense hadn't fallen apart. I think Coach Fran has a good pool of talent to work with and hope that he can truely get things turned around. I have been a long time proponent of dumping Slocum and at this point am happy with his replacement.
spain
Does anybody think that coach Fran knows that Bama maybe getting some additional severe sanctions and wanted to get out before they came?
