The break up of the Big East

It was all just a matter of time.

Can't wait to see the new divisions in the ACC.

The ACC championship game is going to cost ACC teams a shot for the national championship just like it has in the Big 12.

Florida State, Virgina Tech & Miami - now two will get knocked out for sure.

There is no guarantee that there will be an ACC championship game (at least for now).

The new ACC maybe structured like the current BigTen. But even when the ACC does get a conference championship, the winner may still get a #1 or #2 from the BCS. There is no easy answer for getting a format, but if all major conferences have a championship game, and only major conference teams are eligable for the national title, than there could be a way to work it out.

I did not know it was not certain.

NO, what I mean is like what happened to Nebraska and Kansas State in the Big 12. They just had to win the Big 12 championship to go to the national championship game with their perfect undefeated record. They both lost to lesser teams with a couple losses, they both lost out in the NC and the lesser team had to many losses to qualify. The Big 12 lost two possible championships right there.

Yeah, NCAA mandates that a conference must have 12 teams in order to be able to have a conference title game. With MIA & VT added, the ACC has 11 teams. They may file for an excemption, but for now, no title game.

Good points. No doubt that when any team adds a title game to their schedule, it becomes a lot harder to go undefeated or even have a good enough record to make the NC game.

I'm tired of the Big East whining about how Miami "promised to stay" ... what a load of crap. Every organization makes decisions based on what is best for said organization right now ... not based on what was good for the organization years ago. Every team in the Big East would move to another conference if asked if they perceived that it was good for their school ... Virginia Tech is a case in point. They were participants in the law suit against the ACC and Miami until they got their invitation. Then their tune changed to "oh you want us ... we're there".

Unless there is a legally binding contract it is ridiculous to think that organizations won't continue to make decisions that they perceive will bring the most value to them.
